Well it certainly was a pretty bad injury , by all accounts. And I wouldn't assume anything until we actually see him back on the field. But the fact that he is reported to have recently got back to running is encouraging : I fancy running is an exercise that is unlikely to be successfully managed until recovery from a broken leg is fairly well advanced...

Guess we will find out in May.

It certainly seems encouraging if he is running. Its never good to see people get serious injuries, so hopefully we see him on the field in the next few weeks.

I seen an article with Crawley the other day saying that he thought he had a really good defensive technique... :slap

The team management seemingly decided last year that returns didnt matter, and that they would back him as a match winner even with a large failure rate. I think after 33 tests and an average of 27, its proven beyond doubt he's not good enough for test cricket, but they don't want to drop him. Maybe he will explode into life at some stage and prove me wrong, but I cannot understand his continued selection. And his average is creeping downwards.

Yorkshire say it wasnt the ECB, but Bairstow himself, who asked to keep for them this summer.

I see Jofra is going to warm up for the ashes at the IPL, so no chance that he'll turn out for his county any time soon. As with Woody, England just won't risk injury doing something that doesn't involve earning staggering amounts of money

Is this different from KP wanting to play in the IPL, when it was such a big issue?

I sat in the sunshine at the Riverside on Monday afternoon and watched some of day 1 of the uni game. People had had to scrape ice off their cars that morning. Horrible weather after that until this afternoon. At some point Spring will have to kick in

Yes a big difference if the ECB did the asking so I can at least feel a bit safer that Foakes might keep his place.

Crawley says he has a very good defensive technique. 'That is not something I need to work on'. :?

I mean, maybe Zak is right. Maybe he has a textbook and historically great defensive game.....

Until he starts using it, instead of wafting aimless drives to balls 3 meters outside his off stump and not full enough to get under the ball, I guess we wont know.

But its comforting to know its there should he deem it important enough to use it.

Of course, I think I have made my feelings on Crawley well known in the past. I am loath to feel like England continually picking him has somewhat destroyed his chances at the top level - after 33 tests and an average of 27, I get the feeling once patience runs out with him next, its over for him. He has problems outside his off-stump. He has a glorious array of strokes. If he had taken time in the lower forms of the game to try and correct his problems, he had a chance, maybe small as its not easy to change such an important and fundamental problem, but a chance nevertheless.

I dont greatly understand what the team management expected him to do without time away from top level cricket to improve his fundamentals. Maybe this year he will go full Bairstow and prove me wrong, but his words the other day are worrying if he thinks he doesnt need to work on his problems, or that they exist at all.

I think England would got more out of Lees. Are they keeping Crawley as a pet? Don't worry about your runs, one day you will get a score. The rest of the team can carry you.

Last season in the cc

9 games ave 73.25 high score 132* Foakes
7 games ave 59.18 high score 182* Lees
9 games ave 27.47 high score 84 Crawley
