Would be the perfect tour for Ahmed.

Wonder if Mahmood thinks it is a step down playing in the Lions when he should have been picked for ODIs in SA? At one stage he was hoping to be selected for the Pakistan Tests.

ENGLAND LIONS TOUR OF SRI LANKA – SCHEDULE (TIMINGS ARE LOCAL)

Three-day warm-up match: SLC Board XI v England Lions; 25-27 January, RPICS Colombo (10am start local time)
First four-day Test: Sri Lanka A v England Lions; 31 January – 3 February, GICS Galle (10am start)
Second four-day Test: Sri Lanka A v England Lions; 7-10 February, GICS Galle (10am start)

First ODI: Sri Lanka A v England Lions; 15 February, RPICS Colombo (10am start)
Second ODI: Sri Lanka A v England Lions, 18 February, RPICS Colombo (10am start)
Third ODI: Sri Lanka A v England Lions, 21 February, RPICS Colombo (10am start)

Noted this in the Mail https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/crick ... ution.html

'Luke Wright will not hold the power of his predecessors and Bobat will continue to have a significant selectorial voice'.

Really Bobat is the national selector. :)

I am surprised that Hameed is still in the England setup, as his last run in the team, although brief, puts him in the very lowest category of players I have ever seen put in an England shirt. For a man whose sole attribute is defensive steel and patience, he had literally no technique to full inswinging balls, and consistently missed them by miles.

I can only assume to have averaged 35 in CC in an era of some low scoring, he must have scored all his runs on pitches where the ball didnt move.

clearly the lions have got the message too

I think every batter in county cricket with one eye on the hope of an England call up, will now understand exactly what it takes to get themselves in the queue. If nothing else, there is no mixed messaging going on. It's all very clear, so I have a sneaky feeling that the way championship cricket is usually played is going to change this year..... for better or worse. Quite exciting, really

He got 140 v Anderson and Robinson in the UAE so thinks he is ready.

I think it would be better if the ECB didn't even release the scorecards of these non-FC games where they use all the squad to bowl, and what not. They routinely throw up ridiculous scores, and I doubt they have any worth other than to be glorified net sessions to get people in shape. Most of the shoe in selections bowl one spell and then get removed from the match.

England scored well over 600 by memory vs some Aussie XI before the Ashes last time round, but Crawley/Lawrence who made big scores couldnt buy a run after. Think the Lions also scored some mammoth total vs a South African side recently (like near 700?).

I think its as simple with Hameed as a general eye test. He just looks rubbish technically, footwork last run in the team was appalling. I leave a tiny room of doubt about that though, as his career seems to show some massive troughs and very good peaks. Maybe a total confidence player...

Fisher gets to bowl at the tail 9.4-0-34-5. Last time it was Tongue and the tail 8-2-22-3. Cook unlucky not to get that chance.
