Jamie Overton being tipped to replace Ben Stokes in england's t20 world cup squad....intresting move this, are we at a point now where Overton is more of a batsman who bowls now? Granted i haven;t seen much of Surrey in red ball last few years but in white ball he tends to bat middle order and rarely bowls his full quota....I would have thought he couldn't have been far away from the test side with all injuries we have to the quicks, but is he now becoming a white ball middle order hitter who can contribute a few handy overs?

Still saddens me that Jimmy will call it a day this summer....Yes it's the right call and probably should have been done last summer, but there's no disputing how he stayed commited got even fitter and clearly wanted to stay in the side! Farewell Jimmy thanks for the memories!

Amusing - in a somewhat depressing way - to look at the above two posts today as the news that Overton is - like Tongue - now officially out injured for the summer...

Wish they could all stay as fit as Jimmy ;)

So what are we thinking the 1st test match bowling attack of the summer is going to look like?

Both spinner slot and quicks are up in the air......assuming Stokes is now fit to bowl given he has bowled in CC so he is 4th seamer so 3 quicks and a spinner?

I would have thought Leach will play however i would like to see Bashir get the nod....Hartley I don't think will be involved and it appears Rehan is slowly falling out of favour at the moment in all formats...

The quicks could be anyone....assuming Mark Wood will probably get the nod if fit....Chris Woakes in home conditions, or is it time to move on? Potts has been badly out of form and appears to have picked up an injury...

I think Sam Cook should get a call up and see how he goes has been in fantastic form for a long period of time now and can do the Jimmy role....Olly Stone has taken wickets this season and has some fitness so he is in the mix.....Sam Curran hasn't played red ball for a while but can't rule him out of the equation.... Gus Atkinson seems nailed on to at least be in the squad....

Who knows

Can't see where this 4 day Test is taking place! The venue was announced as TBA! It's happening during the T20 series v Pakistan, so it could hardly be less visible. It looks like the IPL is still going on, so players may be still at that. Maybe they'll put out an experimental side.

Presume this isn't going to Anderson's last Test.

Brook v Bairstow and Foakes v Bairstow seem the issues in the top seven.

No idea what you are referring to. England v Ireland last year was a 4 day test, but are they playing another one?

My error. Mike's thread 'Pak and Zim tour of Eng' includes a 4 day Test v Zimbabwe. But it turns out that it is in '25... And there has been no venue announced because the game is a year away. Fair enough, the itinerary on the thread does say '25.

So the next Test is v West Indies in July...
