I very much doubt he did have to pay. Obviously what he did for Irish football makes him a legend. I guess you dont get that type of abrasive yet warm characters in football anymore. Certainly a lot of amusing anecdotes around in the last day or two about him. RIP Jacky....

Not directly related, but I seen some comments about his home town in some articles; pretty crazy that Ashington, a tiny village of 20000 people, has produced two world cup winning footballers, a player voted in Leeds United all time team, Newcastle United best ever player (Jackie Milburn), a PGA golfer who finished in the top 5 of a major, a Wisden Cricketer of the year (Harmison), and several other professional footballers or cricketers.

Mark Wood comes from there too, so they are currently represented at the highest level of English sport. Pretty amazing, what are they feeding people there?

Only remember him for Chariots. He had a small role in Bridge Too Far and was in a Bernard Rose film, Paperhouse. Not seen him in anything else. Forty years on I can clearly picture him in COF though.

he was Spock's dad in the first remake of Star Trek, and I remember him in First Knight. Bridge too far was a surprise to me

Film and tv actor Diana Rigg has died at 82. For me she is Mrs Peel in my favourite ever tv programme, The Avengers, when she was an exceptionally beautiful (and sexy) woman- with great comic flair. Memorable too in the Bond film OHMSS (only made 17 feature films), and as Mrs Danvers in a tv version of Rebecca. Also a highly regarded stage actor.
