Longest presenter of a programme too.

Seen him in quite a few films, usually as an office worker. A copper in the Long Arm, which is a good film.

Yes, Just a Minute. He didn't miss a show for the first 50 years, I believe

Good golly!

He inspired a great many musicians/songwriters. RIP

(I actually thought we'd lost him a year or two ago, but that was Chuck Berry, of course)

Nah, she recently became the oldest person ever to chart during the VE Day celebrations.... 103 year old with an album in the top 10 or something

It was to commemorate her 100th birthday says Wiki. Also says that when the had a number one album in 09, she passed Bob Dylan as the oldest person to get there.

According to IMDB, she has featured on 30 soundtracks of films, including the three she acted in. I'd have thought it would be hundreds, as two of her songs feel quite uniquitous in lending period atmosphere to films. Works every time.

Most famous would be Dr. Strangelove, I suppose, though to a different effect.

Lord of the Rings star, apparently

if only he'd been in more films

Bless him... if he'd had a 20 second walk on part in one of the Harry Potter films, he'd have been described as a Harry Potter star
