That is really sad. Way too early. She was a remarkable performer as well as an uncompromising activist. A difficult life and one that has ended all too soon.

Your way with words is always there, Arthur.

I have used those three words a couple of times today.

She leaves a bit of a difficult legacy behind. While I respect her commitment to her various causes, some of them very worthy stances, I cannot honestly say that she was a likeable character. The default setting of hostility and disagreeableness was often too much, and dare I say a little forced and OTT at points merely to front up a certain image. She filtered in and out of public life, increasingly as a sort of rent-a-quote type celebrity with a predictable stance and vitriolic delivery. She always cut the figure of someone deeply troubled.

William Friedkin has died at 87. Best known for French Connection and The Exorcist. But familiar to me for many documentaries and dvd extras about the classic films and the great directors. Always interesting and enthusiastic.

Rodriguez, singer/songwriter who was responsible for the masterpiece Cold Fact, has died at 81.

Sure, I am biased, but it needed this correction.

Chat show host Michael Parkinson. Always thought his interviews were cringeworthy and lacked class (compare with the excellent Mark Lawson) but he was a huge prime time draw and there have been far worse.

I didn't mind a bit of Parky, tbh. He had a core group of guests that he got along with very well and who probably appeared too many times, but they were entertaining guests and so it worked. I doubt I'd watch it these days.... but then, I watch very little TV these days
