It strikes me as being a bit of a shame that he keeps being described as 'the Sound of Music actor, Christopher Plummer', given that it seemed to have been one of his least favourite films.

Apparently, he came around to liking the movie, what it was, and what it did for him. In the 80's, did I hear?

i'd forgotten that he was in WAOVW.... all the attention was on Burton and Taylor, I suppose. My earliest memory of him would have been Fun with *modded* and Jane. I haven't seen the remake, but I'd imagine Segal was much better than the Canadian irritant

I never knew that there was a film of King Rat - or that the book was written so early, I thought it came out in the early 70's.

I really enjoyed the book, might have to search for the movie.

It's a British film made with US money, so I'm guessing the lead character was changed to an American to help publicity.

From my memory, the lead character in the book was from the US. It is more than 40 years since I last read it, but I thought he was a New Yorker.

I remember him mostly for the role of Jimmy Perry in 'We're doomed' the dads army story.

joins John Sessions (who played Arthur Lowe) as someone from that programme who died far too young
