You were bowling to Garner? Or was there someone called Gardner?

Yes they were and they got a lot of support from the Australian youth and perhaps some older ones, now that I don't know about.

I remember them practicing slips catching in front of what was a fairly tiny members stand at the TCA ground. Well one got away and ended up in the members stand. They all started shouting at the Windies team and giving them grief, and the 20 or so of us teens game back at the members with three times the abuse. You should have seen the smiles on the Windies faces.

Well I guess we have seen those smiles many a time.

for me he is one of the three no-brainers alongside Richards and Garner

Test matches also just looking at his record. Sadly I have seen him bat rarely, maybe even just a couple of times from memory. Fortunately I did see him score that fastest century a few weeks ago.

GREATEST OF ALL TIME ??

Barry Richards
Victor Trumper
Donald Bradman
Viv Richards
Greame Pollock
Gary Sobers
Adam Gilchrist
Wasim Akram
Shane Warne
Malcom Marshall
S F Barnes

I know every body is likely to say "what about Lara AB de Villiers Sachin Tendulkar Joel Garner Curtly Ambrose etc etc" but given we are playing with present day equipment and my team gets to play a few practice matches I would challenge others to pick a team that would beat this one.

I always rated Garner as a better ODI bowler than Marshall.

Is anyone sure what Barnes bowled? Statsguru categorise bowlers, as spinner, fast bowler or other, and he comes under other.

I thought he was a medium paced seamer. Impossible to tell how good he was, compared to today's bowlers, but he was above his peers by some distance.

Imagine the C9 promotion material. The signed Bradman replica cap. Imitation Victor Trumper handkerchiefs.
