Virat's captaincy watch

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

Today's super over is indicative of the type of captain Virat is.

Has scored 22 runs in 3 IPL innings and puts himself in ahead of Aaron Finch who has scored 101 all with SR over 100.

Ego. Ego. Ego.

First time Virat has lost test after winning toss.

But he should resign as captain. Has failed to build a team. Too impatient to be a captain. Losing is fine but 36 runs in test innings is the worst one could give as a team. Sadly Ganguly who talks big will do nothing. The performances against NZ in test and now with this innings, Kohli has to be held accountable.

The commentators are also busy doing PR for BCCI and players. They too won't speak against this management and team. It has become a business and this epic loss will be well managed by everyone at BCCI.

Easy to get carried away after such a humiliating defeat (I do this all the time), but the problem for Virat is that if India turn it around (which they might) it will be attributed to whoever is taking over the captaincy for the rest of the series, so it's lose/lose for him.

Virat says don't make mountain of a molehill.

So now runs 36 runs in an innings is a molehill. Being a cricketing great one would expect him to know how many are 36 runs exactly worth in test cricket. Even Zimbabwe or Kenya captain will think twice before saying guys forget this. It's okay.

your side being bowled out for 36 runs sure is no molehill - especially when in a dominant position in the test - but it is also not the end of the world, nor a time of wholesale changes/loss of captaincy either.

A pattern of poor batting performances will rightly bring about a strong reaction, but this one poor (very poor even) innings shouldn't see heads roll. (though Shaw must be feeling a little nervous)

The timing of this is terrible though, with Kolhi going home - and good luck to Kolhi, I hope it all goes well for he and his family. Not too many people would begrudge him this absence from national duties. Tripled with Shami's expected absence from the rest of the series, India will do well to avoid a 4-0 drubbing.

It will be very interesting to see how Rahane goes as captain, but my feeling about Kolhi as captain is that he is several streets ahead of any other candidate for the role. He is an inspirational captain, a fearsome batsman and an opponent that every other team want to see the end of.

Calling for his resignation is pretty premature, imo, and very much a kneejerk reaction.

Majority of Indian fans want Virat to resign. Shastri's resignation will also be cheered in India . It's just that Virat's PR team is giving a impression that Virat is the saviour. And Shastri knows that he has backing of most powerful man in Indian cricket. No wonder he always says Yes to him. When it comes to fanbase they both are unwanted by most of the fans.He has been more harmful to this Indian team , not as a batsman but as a captain. He is very poor at managing players.

Parthiv Patel who retired recently and also played under Virat has now freely spoken that Rohit is better captain than Virat. Even KL Rahul has said so. Many Indian current cricketers are in favor of Rohit the captain over Virat the captain.

Just like Indian fans wanted Dhonii to be sacked , a few year earlier than he was no longer captain, Virat is also in similar situation. Since about a year now, the captaincy change is in high demand. But like Dhoni, even Virat will get a free hand and continue to be a captain.

The combination of Virat and Shastri is one of the worst things to have happened to youngsters in Indian cricket.

Good that Ajinkya got captaincy after the first test when Virat left for India. Ajinkya got a second and even third choice bowlers yet he achieved the best overseas test series win overseas for India.

Feel like a bad series will be the death of Virat

The word today in the commentary chatter was that the India team enjoyed the relaxed style of captaincy from Rahane much more than they do Kohli's intensity

I imagine that Kohli is a bit of an icon though, so might be pretty bomb proof, although Adi and Red will probably have a better insight than me on this

Virat's lost four on the bounce.

In the unlikely event India lose the series, I don't see how he could hang on after the Rahane-led victory over Australia. England captains have invariably resigned when thumped at home. Last series in India was the end of Captain Cook...

Virat is a big brand now. He won't be sacked as captain. There is too much of support from him now at BCCI. The longer he stays as captain the more youngsters careers will be spoiled.

I am surprised some Indian commentator actually spoke against Virat. The last time Harsha criticized him, he was out of commentary box for an year or so.

Dhawan put together a very competent individual performance today alongside some calm, sensible and rational captaincy.....one wonders.
