Considering this board was literally screaming for the likes of Hales, Ballance, Stokes, Buttler etc not that long ago, it is only really conservative in terms of Cook and Bell, who seem to have been around forever.

With Mike Selvey saying everywherethat the squad was going to be ripped up for this series, I presumed he'd had a nod from the ECB. But this is the standard squad.

Don't forget Woakes and possibly Tredwell.
those two are the most talked about players in twitter that shouldn't be picked.

Hales is of course a progressive selection. It just seems hard to see him in the team. Maybe Bell will make way, or compete with Ballance for number three. There is a suspicion that Cook is weakening the side by staying on as skipper.

Uninspiring squad.

England have had so many opportunities to drop Bopara. But why now when his performances have been improving? I still don't think he is quite good enough with the bat, in terms of reliability, but it remains an odd decision.

What roles are Ali and Stokes supposed to have? The former opens for Worcestershire and won't do so here with three other openers in the squad. The latter has been poor in ODIs and hasn't found a successful role yet.

Woakes? He isn't a white ball bowler. And never gets picked anyway. Warwickshire will be pleased...

Cook... Well he was never going to be dropped. Over the past 2 years his strike rate is 73. Only Ballance has lower amongst the batsmen and he is making his way - after a successful few months in the Test team I expect that to rocket up. Cook also hasn't made a hundred since who knows when.

Maybe we will find the right balance. In a way it is good to see England clearing looking at the problematic all rounder positions but the squad feels confused all the same.

apart from cook the batting looks strong and powerful to me, its the bowling i am worried about, it looks threadbare at best

we need finn to re find his old ODI form, it was him and swann that were our main threats

Andrew Strauss was underrated in the ODI arena.
