my concern is going to be how we assess how well set up we might be for the world cup based on the next 2 series

we saw last time india were here how a hangover from the test series can carry over into the ODIs , and then we play sri lanka away in conditions likely to be quite different to what we will see at the world cup, and against a pretty solid ODI side, especially at home

we really need to be taking the squad for the world cup to Australia for the tri-series imo , or at least very close to it , and now our only real opportunity to experiment is going to be away to sri lanka that isn't going to tell us alot imo

I be worried if that is the squad especially since india would most likely lose this series and give England lots lots of false hopes for the world cup since many people rate india has one of the strongest ODI teams in the last 3-4 years.

I think Hales was called up even though Carberry was fit to play.

Woakes and Stokes are just in this squad to wind up supporters of their counties. Hales will bat out of position and fail in order to remove him from consideration in the WC and stop people from harping on about him being missing when England go out.

Bell is so *modded* in any other position.
unless they move ballance from 3 and place him at 4 or 5.
And then have bell at 3.
It is so embarrassing for England that they can't even name a easy 11 6 months before the world cup.

thing is does cook merit a place in the team if he isn't captain ?

I think he averages just over 30 at a s/r in the low 70s for the last 2 years in ODIs , he had that very good run when he first took over as captain but that was 3 years ago now

not like we would miss his captaincy

I'm hoping that at least after the WC they will move on from some of these players. Not carry on with Cook for another four years.

Should never have been made captain in the first place. Reckon he may quit after the world cup.

A terrible squad although probably should still beat India.
