Looking at the cricinfo squad reminds me of that expression 'you've made your bed now you have to lie on it'.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Looks like Rashid, Rankin, Roy and Taylor, of those most prominently backed, won't be figuring.

Will they just be choosing 15 from 16 then, adding Anderson to this proposed squad? Maybe two from Ravi, Woakes and Stokes?

looks like England really did need to lose 4-0 then.
Surprised they not really trying Taylor before the world cup wasn't expecting massive changes but did expect one new bowlers and Taylor to be included.
I would personally pick Taylor ahead of Bell especially with Dobell not exactly being positive about bell.
although Bell had a top score of 50 in ODIs this season he has a decent long-term record.

England have their collectives stuck so far in the sand I am amazed they haven't suffocated.

Taylor might be in apparently.

Its clear though : Alastair Cook has no ounce of self-respect.

This is the cricinfo squad.

Alastair Cook, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Ian Bell, Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, James Tredwell, James Anderson, Harry Gurney, Steven Finn.

Add Broad to that (not convinced Gurney will go to the WC though). Then there's Ballance, and if Taylor goes to SL (feels a long shot) that gives eighteen names for fifteen places.

I missed Anderson's name earlier because I assumed he wouldn't go to SL.

It'll be interesting to see the reaction to a heavy defeat; England will be second favourites but a trouncing might have to be explained. Newman is still making excuses for Cook in that article. Selvey explained the India defeat by saying ODIs are a lottery!

U turn done on Ravi? This seems to be the extent of the fallout from the defeat to India. Unless Taylor does go.

Taking Taylor makes sense in that it attracts interest away from Cook not stepping down. It makes it look like something has changed, otherwise people will wonder why the captain hasn't changed.

I worry about the death bowling. Not much experience. At least Broad will be back for the WC. Maybe we should bowl Bopara and Tredwell.

Bowling in the last 4 overs
146.2 overs - Anderson (econ 7.23)
91.0 - Broad (7.10)
35.1 - Finn (8.19)
16.2 - Woakes (7.83)
14.4 -Tredwell (4.29)
14-0 - Jordan (7.28)
13.3- Bopara (5.55)
9.3 - Gurney (9.78)
9.0 - Stokes (7.88)
2.0 - Root (15.50)

England journalist repeatedly becoming more like BCCI controlled news.
Cook has his detractors in limited-overs cricket but the fact remains that he has five one-day hundreds, is one of the top 10 runscorers in world 50-over cricket since the last World Cup and has a strike-rate as captain comparable to Michael Clarke’s. He has silenced doubters before and is determined to do so again, as he told Sportsmail in an exclusive interview where he said he would be 'devastated' to miss out now, before almost certainly handing over the one-day reins after the World Cup.

this quote cracks me up especially since they criticize bell for not scoring hundreds but then cook with only 2 more hundreds is seen has a very good thing. :panic

Here is the top 10 runs scorers since the last world cup.
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... pe=batting
V Kohli 3734 14 hundreds 17 fifties
K Sangakkara 3680 8 hundreds 24 fifties
Dilshan 3016 7 hundreds 16 fifties
Hafeez 2713 8 hundreds 13 fifties
Misbah ul haq 2583 0 hundreds 23 fifties
Mahela Jayawardene 2414 2 hundreds 18 fifties
Ab De Villiers 2257 runs 7 hundreds 12 fifties
R Sharma 2231 runs 2 hundreds 18 fifties
Cook 2227 runs 4 hundreds 14 fifties
Angelo Mathews 2217 runs 0 hundreds 16 fifties.

For a top order batsman Cook doesn't even score that many fifties players batting at 4-5 score more than him.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... pe=batting
here the hundred list where he comes 10th but looks at the games played lots of player above have played far less games and some below him have played far less than him.
