Assuming that four place are secured:

Cook
Bell
Broad
Anderson

I would then add Root (good prospect already blooded) and Prior (nobody else knocking the door down)

Current knee jerk XI:

Cook
Robson
Bell
Ballance
Root
Stokes
Prior
Jordan
Broad
Anderson
Kerrigan

Yes, Kerrigan is looking more likely now.

Woakes in knee jerk team? He took five today. Jordan's wickets were last week.

I still think Carbs has a chance, I think him and Robson are 50/50 for the openers spot.

difficult selection, the aussie or the old man (in cricketing terms)

think id pick the aussie, since there arent any south africans scoring runs atm might as well pick the second best

he scored a lot of runs in the winter and has started the season well

probably a good idea to start a new era for this england team with someone who could be a regular for the next decade not someone who probably has 2 or 3 years left in him and has shown he has issues capitalising on good starts

I would probably pick Robson too, but apparently Moores is a Carbs fan, and he isn't in bad form this season.

Carbs scored 100* in a T20 and 150* in a List A game vs Lancs last season, so I think there is a fair chance he will be playing limited overs this summer.

Broad may not be ready in time for the first test of the summer

replace with Lewis Gregory who took 4fer on a typical featherbed pitch at the riverside today

Stokes has blighted his copy book.... replace with Will Gidman

Moores likes his allrounders opening the batting to demonstrate the enormous capacity of his brain when thinking outside the box

Can almost hear the approval sounds emanating from Scott 'Steve Borthwick' Berry

"Hmmmmmmmm Wallace Gidman opening? Interesting idea, this Paul Moores chap must be a real deep thinker/innovator"

I would hope Moores would take this summer as his honeymoon period and bring in new blood while expectations are a little lower.

perhaps Moores will become a part time athletics coach as well, and get Mo Farah to do some grid sprints moments after crossing the finish line of the London marathon?

Mo Farah at 4

might not score any runs but ought to be in good shape for the innovative training sessions

Ooh Ooh.....

John Sessions as batting coach

He would be great at helping the T20 batsmen to improvise, particularly if Josie Lawrence helped him

Would any of these agree to work with Giles Clarke?

Inside the game, young players grow up with the idea of working with Clarke from age group cricket onwards. So at 19, they can voice corporate platitudes with the kind of conviction we can now see in Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad. But for someone outside the game, like a Mo Farah, I think it's just a bit fanciful.

Is there another senior batsman available?

KP has been sacked, Trott is unavailable, Morgan is an ODI/T20 player.

I suppose you could go for Ali at 3, Bell at 4 and Root at 5 :dunno

Either way, if we are going to win the series this summer then the younger players are going to have to stand up and be counted!
