Id pick Bresnan for the tests at the moment for continuity, and assuming that over the winter he has built fitness. I don't think he bowled badly considering the dross of the last tour, and the fact that he was rushed back.

Having said that, if he steps near the limited overs team then

Michael Klinger thinks Will Gidman deserves a spot, and to be honest, I agree with him.

Worse players than him have been capped in the not so distant past.

Where do you see him batting? Would he take Stokes' place? Why hasn't he gone on a Lions tour?

Don't know about the Lions Tour but if I remember correctly, he played against the Aussies in a Gloucs vs Aus game pre-Ashes and did very well.

His FC batting average is only about 1 run lower than Stokes, so I don't think thats an issue.

I don't rate any of the spin options particularly against SL and India. I guess if the track demands a spinner, Monty is perhaps still the least worst option. From an Indian perspective, I'd be ecstatic if they pick a spinner.

Trouble is the matches may demand eleven fielders and a tail as short as possible. Also, if Panesar is the best spinner we have, we may as well go in with an all seam attack. I'm sure the groundsmen will have been briefed.
