I meant as a senior bat. Not just Cook and Bell. There's Prior.

Unless he's finished.

So if we go with:

Cook
X
Bell
X
X
Stokes
Prior

Is that enough senior batsmen?

I doubt Stokes will be fit enough for the Sri Lanka test, and if he is, doubt he'll have enough cricket behind him to play.

Woakes in knee jerk team? He took five today. Jordan's wickets were last week.

Since when has Stokes become a senior test player? Was breaking his wrist on a changing room locker his right of passage into senior ranks.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

I wasn't suggesting he was.

Under current circumstance I'd only have Cook and Bell as senior batsmen, as long as we have Root too. The 2 new players to go in at 2 and 4, Stokes 6 with Prior at 7.

I would love to know who these senior test players we are supposed to be picking are.

My point exactly. Some of the questions raised about this side seem to ignore that beyond these five the next most experianced player realistically in selection contention would be Bresnan shortly followed by Root who was recently dropped.

No matter how you try and square it, England are going to have an inexperainced batting line up, and that's just a fact people are going to have to get used to.

I don't hold with the idea that we should see a host of young players coming into the team in large quantities, somehow we need players with a degree of gravitas along with youth.
Cook
Carberry
Compton
Moeen Ali (spinner as well)
Bell
Root (spinner as well)
Prior/Kieswetter
Jordan/Woakes/Stokes
Broad
Finn
Anderson.
