Archer and Burns both get central contracts. full for Archer and red ball for Burns

white ball contracts for Denly, Mo and Dilly

Willey and Hales lose theirs (no surprise), but Plunkett also loses his, which has come as a big surprise to me.

End of the road?

No sentimentality there then!

nee friends in this game

Thank goodness Surrey can afford to pick up where England left off. Some Surrey bean counter will be on the phone already, ringing around all his corporate contacts to find someone willing to pay Pudsey's wages for next year so that he doesn't have to be included on the wage bill............. chancers!

Squad announcement on Monday

Would think that the 10 centrally contracted players will be there but who else

Batsmen
1 Burns
2 Denly
3 Root
4 Stokes
5 Bairstow
6 Pope
7 Buttler (wk)

Bowlers - Anderson, Broad, Stokes, Archer, Stone, Woakes, Curran, Wood, Overton
They will only take 6. Some reports saying Anderson is not fit. He will have had 3 months off before 1st Test, for a 2 week calf tear. Wood only fit for SA. Stone has hardly bowled this year.

Leach
Ali reserve spinner Sibley reserve batsman

So you also have no Anderson. Best for him to winter in Aus or NZ domestic cricket instead of doing nothing till May next year (9 months).

No YJB either, I see, Arthur

would they rest Root and let Stokes captain the side, would they take Root and rest Stokes for NZ or are inclusions for both non-negotiable?

Gentle Ben has had a heavy year, but honest Joe could use some middle time before SA

why do I think there are 3 tours this winter? Have I seen something somewhere, or am I just very dim and prone to making stuff up?

Thought Anderson was injured. In for Woakes in the XI if he's fit.

Most have left Bairstow out in the Wisden link.

Ages until the tour and none of the players will be performing until then. Not sure why anyone needs to miss going to NZ for two Tests because of R&R.

me neither, but there has been much speculation that England may do exactly that. Perhaps they want players to be fresh for the hundred next year

or fresh for the draft next month

or fresh for the second round the month after that

or fresh for the non-playing player contracts

who knows :dunno

Mo has opted out the tour, so there will be another second spinner. Unless it's Denly.

are you allowed to pick and choose when you accept a contract?

seems an odd way to proceed. Does he get docked money? Does he have to get a note from his doctor? Does he need a note from his parents?

I see the KIng of Spain has come straight out and said that the door is not closed for Alex Hales........

which presumably means it is for Plunkett and Willey, or he would have mentioned them
