I read somewhere he had been selected to bat 7 on Tuesday then replaced due to injury :dunno

Willey will probably replace Jordan for the next ODI. And possibly another bowler for Billings.

Wood, then.

Taylor bit unfortunate to be out.

Though Craig Overton has been called up.

Jade must be injured. His econ will start to look good given the current SRs.

Surprising as Willey and Wood are options.

Overton hasn't much of a limited overs record.

I was wondering how much of this 'new era' being bandied about is actually a result of planning and thought - or is it a continuation of a theme we've heard for sometime now but with a change in personnel due to form and natural wastage?

Listening to some 'experts' you'd think they'd all just been liberated from some terrible imprisonment - was Moores that bad?

Anyway an enjoyable game yesterday on a very true pitch and fast outfield - not the best time to be a bowler or a fielder.

Be interesting to see how they cope when the pitch isn't flat and the ball is doing a bit - especially the openers.

But a cracking effort by both sides.

I read there were going to be Lions and EPP squads announced today. But nothing on the ECB site.

Here we go. Rather odd seeming plans and unusual squads.

England Performance Programme and Lions squads
T20 squad for Pakistan A series James Vince (capt), Zafar Ansari, Jake Ball, Sam Billings, Joe Clarke, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Ben Foakes, Lewis Gregory, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Stephen Parry, Reece Topley, Tom Westley, David Willey, Ross Whiteley

Batting/spin camp Zafar Ansari, Danny Briggs, Joe Clarke, Daniel Bell-Drummod, Ben Foakes, Lewis Gregory, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Stephen Parry, Tom Westley, Ross Whiteley, James Vince

Fast-bowling camp Jake Ball, Craig Miles, Tymal Mills, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Olly Stone

Looks like ECB are not that keen on the lions tour any more their definitely are doing more EPP in recent years.

Given that some of players are both in the senior squad and the Lions/EPP, and I thought the EPP camp would run alongside the senior squad, I was a bit unsure of the timings, so here they are:

30 September - England Test tour starts
5th November - England Test tour ends
8th November - England ODI tour starts
11th November - EPP camp starts
20th November - England ODI tour ends
23rd November - England T20 tour starts
30th November - England T20 tour ends
1st December - EPP camp ends
4th December - Lions T20 tour starts
16th December - Lions T20 tour ends

So Ansari, if fit, will go to the EPP after the Test tour. Jordan will presumably leave the EPP tour early to join up with the seniors for the T20 series. And Jordan, Willey, Topley, Billings and Parry will then stay on after the senior T20s to play in the Lions T20s.

The idea of a Lions T20 tour feels a bit peculiar. Even given it's in Asia ahead of a T20WC in Asia.

Don't think so, if anything the whole thing has expanded. Before it just used to be an England A (later Lions) tour, which was and still is kind of a second string squad. The non-senior team winters are now in two parts - the EPP covers camps and is primarily about introducing young players to different cricket environments (e.g. the sub-continent) with some non-FC/LA games, whilst the Lions tours are for the first-class, list A etc games, often against the equivalent development teams for other countries (e.g. Australia A).

Whilst some players would be included in both squads, there are some for whom it's too early to play for the Lions and some who don't particularly need to be on the EPP camps (because of age/experience and, given that some players tour year after year, because it's good to have a winter off).

Even so, apart from these T20 games, which are pretty ephemeral, how long will the Lions be without an outing? I guess this is all about doing something about the last T20WC, though the ill feeling in that tournament was about more than just bad performances.

Why has Plunkett been left out of the ODIs and 20/20s and Wood kept?
Plunkett 35.05
Wood 68.80
