For me KPs time has gone now although it would be good to see him have one last go in the Ashes.

It would be a big risk for KP to come back to County Cricket. He's not played first class cricket in a year and prior to the Big Bash he looked a spent force, he is one of the best batsmen to play for England in the modern era, but can he still produce it.

Even if he scores runs in all competitions, it's hard to see a way back into the side without Downton being removed from the ECB. KP playing for England again would be hugely embarrassing for the top brass.

I'd have KP back in the T20 team like a shot. We don't have any experienced batsmen to build the team around.

The Test and ODI teams depend on form, both his and those already in the squad.

Who would Pietersen potentially replace in the test team?

Can't see Robson getting picked again so they'd have to shuffle the rest to accommodate KP and have a makeshift opener.

It wont happen though.

It's a fairly pointless thing to worry over. KP would have to score enough runs to make it impossible to over look him, I don't see that happening.

we have a good core of talent in the middle order and I would prefer to see us continue to allow guys like ballance, root and taylor develop than go back to KP for a couple of years, same applies to trott as well

James Vince looks the best prospect to me from whatever I've seen. Still think Ballance will get found out against quality attacks.

Pietersen may not necessarily walk straight back into the side even with good form. But competition for places is no bad thing. If Bell broke a finger mid-way through the Ashes, I'd much rather bring in a fit and in form Pietersen than Taylor or Vince given the inexperience of our batting line-up.

Can't see KP playing county cricket unless given firm commitment that he'll be picked, if in form rather than just as an injury replacement.

and that's why I said we need to give those guys time to develop ...

and btw don't judge ballance as a test batsman based on his ODI performances of late

Reputation alone can't guarantee Twenty20 contracts if the poor form continues. A good season in County Cricket will at least maintain KP worth as an overseas Twenty20 player.

Having KP in the background is one way of putting the top brass under pressure. It might well be Colin Graves way of saying he wants change, but currently isn't in a position to do so.

Colin Graves and Mark Arthur coming up with an 11th hour deal for KP to join Yorkshire, our needs are greater than Surrey's ;)
