Says in wiki that 'in 2022, the 86-year-old Delon was invited by Volodymyr Zelenskyy to travel to Ukraine'. So I guess he was against France helping to finance Ukraine.

Sven-Göran Eriksson at 76. Has anyone in British public life- who never committed a crime- suffered as much abuse, both from the British press, and many of its citizens.

Response of tabloids to SGE's appointment.

Daily Mail- 'We’ve sold our birth-right down the fjord to a nation of seven million skiers and hammer throwers who spend half their life in the dark”.

The Sun- “...terrible, pathetic, self-inflicted indictment”.

This is obviously horrendous nationalistic b*llocks. I don't personally care where the manager was born.... if he's the right man for the job.

Same with Claude Rains who got his debut in The Invisible Man because of his mellifluous voice, having overcome a stammer, a broad cockney accent and extreme childhood poverty.

Apropos of nothing, Rains was in the same army unit as Ronald Colman, Basil Rathbone, Herbert Marshall and Cedric Hardwicke in WWI. Claude said his slight huskiness was due to inhaling poison gas.

Just one of my favourite film facts.

This afternoon listened to a 40 minute conversation with JEJ that was recorded (I think) 2 years ago. It was very good, and I hope that you can access this podcast I link to below.

Richard Fidler (the other conversationalist) is a brilliant person at bringing so much out of people in a casual chat. His podcasts make for amazing listening.

Jones was elicited to tell us how he not only had a bad stammer, but it got so bad that he spent 10 years virtually mute. For him to go from that, to the career and legacy, that he has had/left is astonishing. He had quite the past.

A wonderful chat: https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/conversations/james-earl-jones-actor-star-wars-lion-king-legacy/104221856

James Earl Jones never came close to making enough good films to do his acting ability the justice it deserved. I cant think of many people who bring that genuine authority to the screen like he did - his voice and manner are exactly what you would imagine an intergalactic warlord who has conquered the galaxy should sound like. He did angry convincingly, but could also disarm and charm you with a flick of expression. Very few actors can do doom and warmth so convincingly.

I guess for most actors, being the voice of the most famous bad guy in history would be enough to retire a happy man..... but he was an elite level talent. Why he spent his time making films like Coming to America, I do not know. Maybe he enjoyed that....

listening to to that conversation, Sussex, you can get a decent sense of him as a person.

It is less a mystery to me now than if I had thought about it last week.
