Spot Fixing?

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

Please see below a statement released by Shaun Tait via his management at Essentially Australia.

SHAUN TAIT STATEMENT RE: ALLEGATIONS OF IMPROPRIETY IN IPL

Rajasthan Royals and former Australian paceman Shaun Tait has welcomed statements from the Delhi police clearing him of any involvement in spot or match fixing in the IPL.

Tait said:

“I’m bewildered, I’m angry and I’m upset at the false suggestions I’ve been involved in any wrongdoing. While I welcome the recent statements from police clearing me of any involvement, for a few hours today I was deeply distressed by the rumours that were rapidly circulating about me, most of which were aired in the social media space. Not only were they without foundation, they highlight the danger of a medium that deals with innuendo rather than fact, the result of which has brought my name into question. At no stage in my career have I engaged in spot or match fixing and I’m in discussions with my manager and legal representatives to examine how this episode unfolded and any further action I may take. I pride myself on playing cricket hard and fair and look forward to continuing my career in this vein.”

Yes, i have watched the news now for 30 minutes. They spoke the lines which were conversed between bookie and the cricketer. Then they showed video from matches which matched the signals they had agreed over the telephonic conversation.Sreesanth did put the towel as signal. Then i checked cricinfo. It matches to what was agreed and performed. So yes .

Adi, none of us our the judge and jury and unless they have been proven guilty, we can't make that assumption on the board and refer to them in such a manner. They are not fixers unless a court says they are so, until which time they have been alleged to be fixers.

The police commissioner never took Tait's name. The police commissioner has said so far they have enough evidence only against these three and that's why they are arrested. No other cricketers are arrested apart from these 3.

Yes alleged fixers like Asif,Butt and Amir. Onus is on court to prove it if someone actually takes it till the end.But it's India so i am not surprised if they are not dragged to court.Azhar and Jadeja never got punished by court.Inconclusive evidence perhaps? BCCI banned them.?We ban you but don't fight hard against you for the case.Out of court settlement

Some IPL cricketers were banned last year but i don't think the incident was taken to court by anyone.I think BCCI will ban them and that's it.Thats the way things operate here as far as cricket fixing incident are concerned.

Adi, last year the fixing wasn't in IPL, it was in club leagues that weren't directly under BCCI jurisdiction and two of the five players happened to have IPL contracts.

This is on a much larger scale as it actually involves the IPL.

My concern is the way evidences have been destroyed in various high profile criminal cases, including the recent rape ones. Even the vehicle files are gone missing which (the vehicle license in which girl was raped) apparently was given by bribe.

Similarly, maybe these tapes will get corrupt?Virus attack ? Apparently one police officer investigating this was found dead last weekend.Must be coincidence.

Delhi police seeks 7-day police custody of Sreesanth and other accused arrested in the spot-fixing scandal case.

All three were brought in faces covered with black cloth

Chandila forgot to give predetermined signal. So bookies did not place bets.Bookies told Chandila to return 20lacs advance money of the total 40 lacs.

Sreesanth could give only 13 runs instead of agreed 14

Ankeet was able to bowl as he was told

It is alleged that Royals were fixed to lose yesterdays match by 14 runs and they did just that.

Protests happening at some places. Especially strong protests in Bangalore.

Sreesanths and others pictures were burnt. Some protestors posed with the posters of these 3 and labelled "420" on their posters. They were smashing the portraits of these cricketers. Lot of anguish amongst the Indian public be it in conversations, social media or the print and television media.

The cricketers make such a huge noise when they get booed for their on field cheating behavior but they expect fans to pay thousands for seats and watch fixed matches :facepalm

We don't know if the matches were fixed yet, do we? They're just allegations, all 3 are innocent until proven guilty.

Nothing happened. Just some million Indian fans angry just like that. Powerful body like BCCI going so much defensive and franchisee saying its a sad moment. None of the cricketers are guilty. The police are just doing time pass by arresting just on allegations and no evidence. I think Sreesanth, Ankeet and Chandila should be selected for Champions trophy so that they are compensated for the wrong doings millions of Indian fans are doing towards them in protests by various means. Those three are innocent and millions of Indians just don't know what fixing has been in past in our country. We must believe what they and their family has to say. But history says that when millions of fans have got angry over Azhar, Salman Butt even before they were trialled in courts, the outcome was that few were found guilty and millions were proved correct.

A rather strong statement from you there, Adi.

How are you so sure this is baseless?

For action to be taken to this level alone to label such accusations as "baseless" would be a folly.
