The issue of pace (necessarily allied to suitable skill) being rather valuable on a tour of Australia seems to be one on which you are in steadfast disagreement with a host of rather better qualified people. You are of course entitled to your opinion ; just as I am entitled to disregard it.
Rob Key might be better qualified, but the hilarious thing about this is the Australian's noticed in Key's only Ashes series that he had struggled against pace off the ball, and that in the tour games against extreme pace of Joel Angel and Brad Williams (at the WACA as well) he made big scores. Waugh brought himself on against Key and got him out. The next text he put on Damien Martyn, a man with no test wickets, who then got Key out after a few runs, remaining his only test wicket. Key also registered a duck vs military medium in the warm up game.
Its a bizarre conclusion for Key to remember extreme pace working, because the Australia's literally sussed out it was the opposite, and used it against him.
Brendan McCullum's only tour to Australia as captain, he dropped Wagner for the quicker Bracewell...... NZ only bowled out Australia once in 6 attempts, in the first ever test DN game with a pink ball that was criticised for moving too much, but otherwise their attack was smoked around with ease. Wagner, the too slow for OZ man, then returned one of the best statistical performances in the modern age for an away bowler in OZ in 2019, during a period where Australia's bats were arguably the highest performing unit of all time at home.
Stokes averages about 20 since the 2013 in OZ. McCullum 28. Key 16.... McCullum won 1 in 11 in OZ, Key 1 in 4 and Stokes 0 in 9 tests....
Not really a fountain of knoweldge on how to win there, is it?
