Its not a bad piece and he makes some good observations. We might see SRT Retire after the England series but I have reservations about it being so soon.

Tendulkar can't retire after the England series, his swansong must be at Yorkshire and he promised to return to Headingley.

Very few cricketers have planned their careers as good as Sachin since he was in school. Moving to right schools which meant he could progress in cricketing circles, training under Mumbai's and perhaps one of India's top 3 coaches, debuting in teens in test matches and now being selective about which series he plays as he is in end of his career. The cricketing authorities and Sachin together have planned it well at every stage of his career. They consider him special and that's the reason he's given some liberty at some things so that India enjoys the best of his skills / performances and makes the transition more easy for batting lineup. It will not be a boards decision. It will be Sachin who will judge his fitness and then in discussions with Sharad Pawar and the other who's who of Indian cricketing system will come to a decision regarding retirement. When he retires he will have a huge impact on Indian cricketing system and the money that flows in. Yes, Dhoni, Sehwag and Yuvi are poster boys too, but Sachin will have a more influence than anyone else at the world level fans/cricket, not just Indian fans and Indian cricket. IMO Sachin and BCCI are too wise than the fans who have been demanding his resignation since the world cup. They are planning his retirement correctly. The conspiracy theories will do rounds until then as we saw articles which said Australia series will be Sachin's last etc. etc. I am very eager to watch him at Mumbai versus England.

To be honest I don't think him taking it on a series by series basis is particularly helpful for the Team.

I don't think he should be taking the decision himself, personally. Selectors are there for a reason.

He has said he will be playing in November which means he will almost certainly be playing against England and then deciding after whether he wants to call it quits or not.

Saw his debut on TV then, in 2008 I saw him bat in a one-dayer at the MCG - probably the biggest highlight of all my years following cricket.

I don't care how or when he retires - I'll just think 'thank you so much'.

Couldn't agree more. I half hope he plays in the Champion's Trophy next summer so we can see him again.

I just can't help but feel that this will go the way of his 100th test hundred and drag on and on, disrupting the India team all the while. It probably sounds daft, given that he is the greatest player of the modern era, but for the sake of the India team, he probably needs to go sooner rather than later.

I think that was the worrying thing coming out of his interview DF, he said he will review it on a series by series basis which is obviously not helpful for the selectors as they try and plan the long term development of the side.

Judging by his comments, I think he will call it quits after the England series and let a youngster bed in against Australia before the SA series.
