Former Indian batsman Mohinder Amarnath has been sacked as the North Zone selector by the BCCI during the board's 83rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.

Roger Binny is all set to replace Kris Srikkanth as chief selector.

Reports of Amarnath threatening to quit had surfaced after the selection committee had met in August this year to pick the Test team for the two-match series against New Zealand. Amarnath had objected to MS Dhoni continuing as the Test captain after the twin debacles in England and Australia, but then chairman K Srikkanth refused to oblige and the former had threatened to leave.

You are Virat Kohli but your location is VVS Laxman. Should I notify the TOI gossip department?

I think he'd be given the England Test series(and rightly so). Doesn't mean he should open though, in Test matches.

Yeah, thats right! But I am not sure thats got anything to do with his future. Dhoni wants to play 5 bowlers and Viru is the most vulnerable batsman based on form. So is Gambhir but he normally performs in big matches.

hmmm still im sure teams are happier to have Irfan opening the batting rather than sehwag, sehwag is a must in t20 IMO.

T20 is Viru's weakest suit. He has only 2 T20I half centuries and hasn't scored one since December 2009. That said, I'd still bring him back against Pakistan as he normally performs against them.

he is perfect for t20..just swings from the hip and should be perfect in this format...much better than Irfan at the top IMO.

Of course, no one is comparing him as a batsman to Irfan. Irfan opened not because he is considered a better opener than Viru but because we wanted to play a 5th bowler. Now not that agree with Irfan opening(I would have opened with Virat or Nohit) but the point remains that Viru is not competing with Irfan for a slot in the XI. If we want to play 5 bowlers(I am not too keen on that anyway) then Viru is competing with one of Yuvi/Gauti/Nohit for a slot and in his current form, its not completely unreasonable to leave him out.

As far as him being "perfect" for this format, well I agree with you that he "should be" perfect for this format. But the fact is that he hasn't proven himself to be so.

Having said all that, I'd definitely pick him against Pakistan. Pakistan seems to get the best out of him and for those who believe in superstitions, we have never won a World T20 Super 8 match without him.
Any road up, he offers more with the ball anyway than Chawla.
