Must say this is pretty damning article on Amir and co.

If they still dont show any remorse for their actions then ban them for life.

taken from the above article

Amir's five-year ban has been criticised in some quarters as being too severe

REALLY ?? from who, five years is the most lenient punishment possible...he has been found guilty of cheating

another pathetic "hes just a child article"..if hes old enough to play test cricket, hes old enough to get a real punishment and he didnt even get that, with the corruption that is in the PCB he will play again in 5 years, and all this situation has done has given him financial gain.

Yes, total rubbish that its a harsh punishment. He is a cheater and he needed to be punished severely considering that he was representing the country, and cheated knowingly while doing his duties. Ban him for life.

I think england should refuse to play against any pakistan team containing these 3 in the future if any make it back. Im fed up of this been such a non issue, england should be screaming at the ICC of injustice, these guys shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a cricket pitch ever again and i also think ijaz butt should be sacked immediatley. Why have the ICC been so light lifetime bans for spot fixing would kill it off, they have set a dangerous precedent now if in 5 years time amir is playing test cricket again.

I'm not sure that I go along with these calls for life bans; there's more to justice than punishment: the 'criminal' must be left with some hope of recovering what he has lost and rebuilding his life or career. It doesn't always work, of course, but the possibility that it may work should not be discounted.

Five years is a long time in sport, I reckon.

When I think about how Shane Warne and Mark Waugh got off, five years sounds like a really, really long time.

My (naive) hope is that cricket learns from this and educates their players to report any and every approach they receive from the baddies. They seem to groom their marks with the plausible and build up to the point where players are trapped. Swearstards.

Disclaimer, I wouldn't be so soft if it wasn't Amir. Crikey, he bowls well. I am seriously annoyed that he has been drawn into what seems to be a prevailing culture of crappiness in that team. Swear swear swear.

Hey, what happened to the keeper that fled, Zulthingo Haider?

BBC are reporting that Butt was the subject of an ICC investigation way back in May last year, because of the number of phone calls/texts made between him and the bookie chappie. Not included as part of this latest investigation.

Hmm.

Pakistan media not taking these bans seriously, congratulations ICC for allowing the world to view this as such a joke that they have been hired as experts. How long before this lot are asked to be coaches of domestic teams? Farcical

If they'd been banned for life the Pakistan media wouldn't have hired him? Come off it. The only difference is that perhaps then you'd have spotted that the Pakistan media - over whom no sporting body has any authority whatsoever - are the villains here.

In the end, none of us were sat on the enquiry, none of us heard or saw the evidence in full, none of us heard the legal arguments (and I suspect very few of of us are qualified to ajudicate on them even if we had) and, without having done so, none of us have any right whatsoever to say that the sentences were either too long or too short or about right.
That's how judicial process works and that's why they hired experienced legal professionals to do it rather than just adopt the first one size fits all opinion that comes along.
