I agree with Mr. Shanks here. Unless we can have BCCI push the WC 2015 in sub continent, Viru is not gonna be factor. This is based on the way he has performed lately.

Can he do better in 2015? F*** yeah he can. But you can use that sentence for every player - even Punter. If counting on Viru's super human performance in next WC is not optimism, I don't know what is!

This thread is about the great SRT, after all. And, SRT has played in his last world cup already. If we still have SRT in the team, come 2015... Well, we have bigger issues at hand to deal with.

Our process of grooming and cultivating new talent has clearly failed, for a starter.

Why?
Because he is still good enough to be in the Indian ODI side in all conditions.

Sachin 99% won't be there in 2015, people need their head checking if they think that, no one has played that long. Likewise I can't see Sehwag in 2015 but that's just a guess. Dhoni too questioned before whether he'd be in 2015 so it's pointless to predict probably who will be at the moment. In another year or so, we'll have a clearer picture.

I see where you are coming from. As one of the millions of SRT fan myself, I would love to see him play for as long as possible.

But SRT would have crossed 40 by then, Mr. Shanks! To me, an Indian team without him is still unimaginable but we need to move on. Right now would be a perfect time to start building for the next WC. There are a few slots in our team that need to be taken up by newer generation. We need to invest in new players - How can we have yet another SRT if we keep the "old" SRT around for the longest time?

Of course, we can find other ways SRT can stay engaged with Indian Cricket.

We all would like to know how Mr. ddb calculates and comes up with those probabilistic numbers. For example, why 99% and why not 93%

Not actually a huge Sehwag fan, just think that he is sometimes a much maligned figure considering his often outrageous abilities. Today, if push came to shove I would take Sachin over Sehwag, but I agree with ddb that it would be very unlikely for us to see him come 2015. Sehwag is a maybe, probably the same as Dhoni. The only reason I can't see Sehwag not making it is that he will probably do well (even for his standards) for another couple of years at home, by which point it is unlikely that they will try or even be able to remove him from the side. With SRT, the call will be his I think, but I don't see him wanting to be part of a probable abject Indian side which will undoubtedly fail to retain the WC for one of his final acts in the game.

I hope India invest in new talent.Manish Pandey is my punt.Its a gamble but one which is worth taking.Dont see the point of giving the likes of Rohit chances after chances when he has hardly ever performed against good opposition.I thought he had turned a corner but no,its the same old story.Failing when it really matters.

If there is a player in Indian team one can point out who would want to be a playing member come what may.... Well, SRT would be the one. Him and Dravid have always played for the team.

i can understand sacking a player after a bad season but very disappointing to see that critics are jumping over Sachin after only one bad series. I saw it here on CMS in 2008/2009 and now i see it again. Sack a player only if you have better specialist batsman than Sachin not because he won't play the next world cup.

It's like asking all employees to quit jobs from current organizations right now because they will not be there after few years .
