The BCCI would do well to organise a few 'A' tours.

They could play county cricket. There must be a few counties who want these talented players but usually the BCCI don't let their players play abroad...

The current team are struggling with the movement in Australia so it would be a good idea to prepare the younger players by batting on bowler friendly wickets so that when their chance comes, they might be able to cope...

very impressive knock from Kohli. He is a fantastic talent, and not a bad part time bowler either.

Kohli's hundred just shows that a youngster can succeed only if he is given a decent run in the side.

Agree but don't know if you can do that though as a county would get an unfair advantage in that case especially with the salary cap stuff.

The work permit restrictons are pretty tough for young players as well

I remember the Tories bringing in measures to make sure business/finance could get permits for non-eu workers. Maybe Indian players could get in as having special skills. I think the ECB would be sensible to see it as an exchange though.

India have lots of problems apart from finding some capable young batsmen and bowlers.

Dhoni looks like he has reached his shelf-life as captain, atleast in Tests, but I don't see a rash of quality replacements. Sehwag's captaincy audition has pretty much been a disaster. I'm not sure I know what to make of his whirlwind 63 when India are (were?) basically playing for time. Gambhir might've been a candidate but he's done a lot of talking on his last couple of tours - like that silly dig at Siddle - and not much else. Kohli needs to grow up (and learn to shut his mouth and, oh, lighten up while he's at it) before being talked of as a candidate.

Heck, they can't even find a decent slipper to replace Dravid. Kohli stood there for a bit in Perth and looked lost.

I'm not going anywhere near selection issues, the I**, or horrendous conflicts of interest in the upper echelons of the BCCI.

Tough times ahead, I think.

Oh what the hell. Let me vent some more.

So India has taken a licking. Not just your garden-variety licking, but an utterly disheartening 8-0 pasting over their last two tours.

What I'd have expected in that situation for a recent #1 would a bit of earnestness, some contrition, and an acknowledgement that they've been c*** and that the opposition had been good. I'd have also expected a few mumbled words from the players to the effect that they wanted to do better in Tests in all conditions and that their aim was to get their #1 spot back.

Thankfully, the seniors, the ones who've, in the past, proved themselves in these conditions have atleast been quiet. Not so the younger chaps. They've been grandstanding, acting as if this tour didn't matter at all, and have been spouting c*** about giving it back to the Aussies when they toured India.

If this is the new breed of Indian player, then I'll just quote my previous post and say that tough times are, indeed, ahead. And on that note, I'll sign off and will stop spouting c***.

Dont hold back Vindalf, say what you really mean and vent like crazy, its good for the soul.

I didnt See Sehwags 63, but in the past when hes played these types of innings he managed to put the opposition on the back foot, which has then made it easier for those that followed.

The problem is that teams dont tend to panic now in the face of such onslaughts, partially due to T20 and ODI cricket, they just let them burn themselves out, I think somone on the match thread said that its not Sehwags way to grind an innings and hes more likely to get out cheaply if he tries to play that sort of game as its not natural.

India are going to struggle to lst 90 overs with only 4 wickets remaning, as I dont see any of the lower order hanging around for around 25 overs to force the draw, had Dravid, and Laxman been together then I would have said it was a probability, but now its just trying to minimize the size of the defeat tomorrow morning.

As you say there needs to be some honesty especially for the Fans that have supported the team, and that needs to come from the top (Selectors etc), but at the moment they are sticking thier heads in the sand and in Denial mode.
