I do find it outrageous that people are calling for Sehwag's head on a plate little more than a few months after he broke the ODI record.

his recent test record outside sub continent is starting to make unpleasant reading though. He will still murder bowling attacks at home ... and our next 11 tests are at home, but I guess people are questioning whether we should invest in younger players if Viru can't be relied upon to perform away from the sub continent anymore.

Yeah, a plate for Sehwag's head? It is outrageous... The way he played, his head should be hanged on town square so the kids can practice throwing darts :D

In all seriousness though, Sehwag has been a huge disappointment. I was waiting for some fireworks from him after what he did on dead n' flat Indian pitches. Sadly, fireworks never came. He looked real funny walking back to pavilion with so low scores :D

IMO in india, there's too much foucs on 20-20 cricket with the IPL etc, that they lose focus on test cricket, hence why they are dropping down

Some Indian ex-player, i can't remember who it was but he said something along the lines of,"The losses in Australia and England will all be forgotten come the IPL."

This is sad but true. Once, the IPL comes around, no one will remember the Test thrashings as they will all be focusing on T20.

Brilliant article this.

How did this happen that Indian test cricketers have lost their will to fight? We know that last summer in England was the beginning of a rather unexpected rapid decline. But, what are the reasons for their lack of will to fight? Their behaviour mimics that a mouse that has been given repeated electric shocks and it no longer even bothers to escape.

I don't buy the theory that 20/20 has killed the skills needed to play the longer version. If 20/20 is imparting bad habits, the only example we have seen in this series is Gambir (Marsh to some extent). Tendulkar and Dravid have not been getting dismissed by playing 20/20 style of shots. Laxman does not play much of that format. Sehwag was getting out this way even before 20/20 started.

Mr. Cricketfan90, not sure how true it is. India has always been one of the toughest team to beat at home. The issues arise when we go outside the sub continent to play. We are simply not setup for it. Our bowlers don't click, our batsmen show inexperience handling swing and bounce and the poor fielding is lot more in limelight. We have some home series coming up.. Lets see how we do then. Make up your mind about IPL's effect on Indian Cricket afterwards :salute

Yes perhaps, but with his hand/eye so obviously still being there then I don't see why they are screaming about it. 11 more home tests should equal at least 1100 more Test runs.

He does make me laugh and at times is super annoying - like the way he used the reviews in the WC when he was obviously out... I think there is still a future for him and for Gambhir too. Maybe Dravid at 1 is a solution with Gambhir at three. This way if VVS is to go, the batting would look something like this:

Dravid
Sehwag
Gambhir
Tendulkar
Kohli
Sharma

Something like this. In a few years time, I would expect to see:

Gambhir
Rahane
Pujara
Tendulkar/Kohli
Kohli/Sharma
Sehwag

Maybe Gambhir at three with Sehwag opening still and the others dropping down.

Different format, different games...
Ian Bell: first England player to 10,000 Test runs.
Stuart Broad: first England player to 400 test wickets.

Mr. braveneutral, in a few years' time, I would not like to see SRT as a part of Indian team. If we do, we have bigger issues to worry about :rasta
