Not hyping him up as a future great. All I am saying is he is more talented than Sammy. Thats not hype IMO.

Is Simmons back from injury? If he is,then I dont see the logic of a talented but an extremely raw player like Powell playing ahead of him.

He's hoping for a recall to the ODI squad, which I would hope, is not in doubt....

However, he also has a lawsuit pending against the WICB, helped by WIPA, and like Gayle, Simmons also has a strong case, and is favoured to win....

I agree with the batting aspect. I have watched Sammy's and Russels batting technique very particularly. IMO Russel has a much better batting technique than Sammy. From what i have observed i think Rusell will put on higher individual scores than Sammy.

As far as bowling is concerned i think they will struggle to be in team as test specialist bowlers.

Fielding wise i have seen both put tremendous effort.

Sammy averages better in tests than any current Indian bowler, am I right? (maybe not PK)

Surprising that he averages less than Zaheer. I know who I'd prefer in my side. :D

There is a report on a Trinidadian radio station that Simmons has been included in the ODI squad, and that he'll play a match or two in the WI A team against the India A team, and then fly to England.

Gayle apparently told Sportsmax TV station in Jamaica that he's meeting with the WICB on Sunday to iron out 'residual matters' somewhere in the Caribbean.

Apparently, this is a meeting where the WICB will try to persuade Gayle to drop his restraint-of-trade lawsuit against the WICB, which Gayle has a strong chance of winning. The legal advice the WICB have received with regards to this case seems to have influenced their decision to reverse their stance on the IPL, and not stand in Narine's way, when he insisted on playing in the entire IPL instead of Tests against Australia and England.

"Chris Gayle, who played his first innings in West Indies colours since the 2011 World Cup against Middlesex on Wednesday, has said that all differences between him and the WICB have been resolved and his aim now is to give a lift to Caribbean cricket. "Everything has been rectified," Gayle said. "The main objective is to contribute to West Indies cricket and uplift it. I'm available for all formats of the game. Hopefully I can get some runs in whites and in coloured clothes.""

:dance I guess he'll play in the New Zealand Tests then.

"Cricket has brought him fame and not a little wealth (Forbes magazine recently placed his worth at US$35 million). He earned further respect from his countrymen for his Chris Gayle Academy that he himself launched in Kingston during the week, at Lucas, the club he shares with one of the greatest West Indies batsmen, George Headley. It follows the first in England last year; the initial intake in Jamaica is 20 players, aged 16-20, from disadvantaged backgrounds who will stay 12 months at the academy."

Gayle - One of the rare gems WI's cricket has left.

Not afraid to speak his mind either.

Imagine if he played for England. Downton would probably sack him as well.

A breath of fresh air....

With the opening batsman situation as dire as it is, the West Indies need Gayle more than vice versa.

I think Clive Llyod made a fair point when he said that Bravo and Pollard had not been all that great in recent times. The problem with that though is, the replacements look decidedly worse.
