He's ex England U19, so that's the sort of player who gets a chance normally.

Looks like he's been in a development squad. Not one of the pace bowlers who went in the fast bowler training squad to SA this year though.

this seems a bit premature given that we haven't finished winning this WC yet

hey ho.... for what it's worth

I think we should prioritise the 2019 WC, stick with this squad of players through thick and thin for 3 and half years, then sack Root, rest all our bowlers for the 3 months prior to the tournament starting, get rid of the captain and coach just before and change the team hours before the first match.

And people think I know nothing about cricket :point

and I don't even charge the ECB anything

I hear England have been playing scenario cricket rather than having nets. It's paying off.

get rid of the entire coaching staff and selection panel

none of them have any idea what they are doing

If they had any self-respect they'd resign after this shambles. Saker is going soon and Neil Killeen is already involved with the EPP as is Otis Gibson. All the promising bowlers Topley, Mills, Overton and Wood are all injury prone-that's the 1st problem to address. We need current player's,like Colly's and Tresco on the selection panel but we'll have to go abroad for a batting coach-Sanga' s retiring from ODI's!

I think were looking at the attack from scratch. So someone being mf probably isn't a reason to not consider them.

If we're going to adopt this approach to the next World Cup, then there are a couple of fundamental things that need to happen:

1. Select 2 different captains, one white-ball and one red-ball.
2. Pick ODI squads based more on T20 lines, rather than mainly test match players.

Can't see it happening though, as the ECB have a "thing" about the England captain, and they like to see their centrally contracted players playing in most of the games.

I don't think simply selecting a T20 side is the right approach for ODIs, if you look at most of the top sides they have batsmen that play both Tests and ODIs. You have to be able to potentially bat out 50 overs to be a top order ODI batsman.

I was thinking out of the top 6/7 in the test team maybe 3/4 would be in the ODI team with the remainder selected from T20 or on domestic form. So from the current team maybe those 3 would be Root, Ali and Buttler? With the bowlers you might select only 2/3 test players, depending on type and white-ball ability. As it happens, Anderson and Broad are getting to the point in their careers where concentrating on one form only will lengthen their time in the international game.

Overall you would end up with between 5 and 7 test players mixed in with ODI/T20 players, rather than the current team of 10 test players and Morgan.

Might not work, but the current system has been abject since 1992...
