Random Cricket Thread (International Cricket)

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

It is a tough one.
Fans from other countries do get annoyed when the media and Sometimes players keep on mentioning the Ashes when the Ashes won't be played for another 12-18 months.
Test Matches near the Ashes series always has a sense of Warm up games for the big series.

It is a tough one for the ECB because too much Ashes and probably bad performance in other formats/series might cause a rift between the Old traditionalist and the younger/newer generation.
This week already the younger generation are not happy with the way some people preferred Ashes ahead of the World cup.

Everyone seems to accept India and Pakistan's special rivalry.

English cricket journalists tend to be a bit self important, and patronise teams that actually often beat England in at least one format. That's pretty irritating. Maybe it happens everywhere. Overseas journos/etc in many countries seem to quite enjoy England doing badly.

It depends on the teams.
Sri lanka/New Zealand and even pakistan get patronised if they win one or two games abroad and just competing is seen as a positive so I agree that is irritating.
Which does annoy lots of indian supports and followers is that only india get criticised by the press for not caring about test, for being highly paid, IPL and for being home track bullies not winning away from home ETC.
Although it should be noted indian media/fans are doing the same thing this week by mentioning the World cup and England attitude to ODI/Ashes which has made some English fans choosing the World cup ahead of the Ashes.

I suspect most of the hate of the Ashes is because people are jealous of it, India/Pak/Sri lanka/SA/WI would love to have a massive Test series but it is so hard to displace the Ashes.
Take india for example ever since Pakistan was a no go series BCCI has tried so hard to establish a rivalry with England/Australia it has barely registered with the English or Australian public.
No one in this country cares about the India series.

Well, an India tour is big news for those already interested in cricket. It doesn't attract the wider interest that the Ashes does, but no other series does that here either. If England start doing well at the WC (I know) it would probably start attracting the interest of the general population more than most Test series other than an Australia tour. Though it's reach will be limited by being on Sky.

Yep FTA coverage is big factor in the World cup interest.
In Australia the world cup is huge that it rates higher than the ashes and most sporting events if Australia get to final or faces a massive Knockout game.
2015 W/C is expected to get the highest ever Cricket ratings in the country.

1999 World cup final was 3rd most watch programme in that year
2003 world cup final was 5th most watched programme in that year.

2015 will rate far higher if Australia do well because of the favorable time zones and massive PR hype in the country.

all his deliveries as well , not just the doosra

cant say i'm overly surprised always thought he was a chucker

at his age it will be a struggle for him to completely change his action and make a comeback you would think

Ajmal getting banned pretty much means all doosra bowlers should get banned now.
Not sure any bowlers are left that bowls the doosra anyway now.

Listening to switch hit on cricinfo I heard SKY have bought the right to the IPL for next year so I guess non SKY users will be out in the cold for another majour event.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Clive Llyod giving the impression in an interview that WI players can choose IPL ahead of the West indies test matches against England.

Hopefully not WI cricket is struggling at the moment and not having the best team against a major test nation would be dreadful.
