Me thinks there is a bit of a culture clash showing large in some of the posts here, rather than out and out wummery or Trolling.

Many folks outside of Asia really don't get just how highly valued their cricketers are, oh they look at the sort of hero worship that goes on with footballers like Beckham and Rooney and try to use that as a comparison point, but it isn't really, it pales into insignificance almost in comparison. I don't think I would have grasped it myself without having worked closely with our call centre team in Mumbai.

Its more akin to the sort of hero worship teenage girls of my wifes generation had for those hunks of Scottish manhood the Bay City Rollers in the 70's and my own 13y/o has for JLS these days.

Team India well done. I am also very happy tonight to see Sachin with the World Cup. Highest Indian scorer yet again in this world cup. He deserves it. I cannot express my emotions. He really is. I have many gods. Sachin,Kallis,Ponting,Lara and Jonty. Ever since i played club cricket they have motivated me and i still use my success in cricket to motivate me when i need it . Without them i am nothing.

They maybe cricket idols for many, but for me they are gods. I cannot tell you ,its difficult to convince you because you will not believe it anyways.

I reckon we have a different concept of the word god but even if I should use the mundane definition of 'one that is followed or worshiped' I still cannot see a cricketer fitting the criterion but I will leave it there.
