Ray Brooks, 86, short illness

I remember him as Robbie Box from Big Deal, which was a series I liked back in the eighties. I didn't realise that he was also the narrator of Mr Benn, quite possibly the best kids cartoon series of its generation..... "As if by magic the shopkeeper appeared". Cult status and only about a dozen episodes which, as any fan of Fawlty Towers knows, is the secret to cult status. Quit before it loses something.

There's a film critic whose commentaries I like, to the extent of buying films just for the commentary. He's 71 and I'm often startled and amused by his horrified outbursts about film stars who died 'really young'. Who turn out to have been in their seventies. Maybe it calms his fear of passing time. Anyone who dies in their sixties was robbed of their best years.
