He hasn't been able to get in the championship team this year but did play a few one-dayers. His back has been troubling him for the past 4 or 5 years and this is the reason given for retirement. I'm not sure his contract would have been renewed anyway. I would think at least 3 names would be ahead of him in the next batter group.

Woody retires from international cricket.... unsurprisingly, given his central contract is now up

says he wants to play T20 for Durham and in franchises. I'm not sure how I feel about that tbh. It probably depends on who foots the bill for all his physio, scans and surgery. If Durham give him a T20 contract, we might have to pick up the tab. I like Woody and I'd like to see him bowling rockets on a Friday night, but we aren't made of money

Said he'd be turning up for Ashington also. Maybe he has forgot he can't climb the stairs without three years in hospital.

Another excellent young pace bowler who England wrecked trying to eek out an extra 5mph from. The annoying thing is, he wasn't actually that slow, and his height and ability to really lift the ball off the deck and seam it made him feel a little quicker too. Low and behold, 85mph was not enough, Flower wanted 95mph.... and the result was more 65mph by the end.

He should have played for England, and instead is fading out the game at 31.
