I presume technology means previous records are going to get rewritten...

Most of these records are meaningless, and records like speed ascents or multiple summit attempts in short times are actively reckless and encourage stupid behaviours.

As a case in point, Nims died on Broad Peak having changed at the last minute from a planned expedition to Gasherbrum II, on the sole basis that he wanted to be the first person to climb the 14 x 8000m peaks twice. He went to a mountain where two elite climbers pulled out a summit bid about 1 week before citing snow storms leaving the avalanche risk too dangerous. This was well publicised as the Hungarian and Texan climbing partners were well known and had posted some articles about it. He ignored this, and got 10 people in his expedition killed chasing what would have been the most meaningless feat in mountaineering. Pure suicide.

His legacy will probably not be limited to 10 people killed. No respect for the mountain gets you so far, but will eventually be your end. But people will see his fame and his glossy Red Bull videos, and want to emulate it. And that will kill a lot of people who do.

It was his end.

I thought he was a rightwinger. Sort of Richard Madeley with an education. But wiki says he was on the left. Edited The Spectator though and wrote for Murdoch.
