Was intending to just watch highlights tomorrow but this one has rather drawn me in...England made a bit of a meal of that innings - thank heavens for Nat S-B. Will have to watch the bowling as it looks a tight call from here ...

Think we can almost call this already . West Indies with a rocket start and barring a serious meltdown they are going to win it with overs to spare. England have picked a bad time to have a shocker and won't be making the semi finals...That's t20 cricket.

Plenty of surprises in this WC ! India , England , and now Australia all gone... shows anything can happen on a day in t20. Probably good for the women's game not to have things as predictable as they once were. No idea who will end up on top , though that SA effort to thrash the favourites so convincingly looks rather impressive. I didn't actually watch that one , but 8 wickets and 16 balls to spare... wow. West Indies beat a very clumsy England with some swashbuckling hitting and not sure they can get away with that twice more - and NZ are often able to punch above their weight but don't seem to quite nail the finals ; so whoever comes out on top at the weekend will be rightly delighted.

The previous final was a very close affair with Australia just getting the better of a very enthusiastic home side. No such closeness when they met in the semi-final this time. SA's ability to continually restrict Aus was the difference - the Aus batters never got on top of the bowling. Great job of SA's behalf.

Women's cricket will be the better for this WC, I think.

Amazing performance from a team that had lost ten matches in a row coming in to this tournament (thrashed by Australia , toured England without a win ) . Rank outsiders before the event , they first beat India and then came back from a demoralising defeat by Australia to reach the semis , before overcoming England's West Indian conquerors ... and finally convincingly defeated SA - who had themselves exceeded expectations by beating favourites Australia - in the final...

... On a great weekend for NZ sport : America's Cup yachting triumph (again) ; beating India in a home Test Match (!) ; big netball win over Australia - and I gather one of their football (not rugby) teams managed to win a match too

Excellent from Amelia Kerr with bat (43 from 38) and ball ...especially as she injured herself in the field before bowling and yet took the key wickets in a 3/24 performance that ensured her PoTM and PoTS awards. Clearly the rising star in the game - and great for veterans Bates and Devine to take this win in the latter stages of their careers.

Has to be good for Women's Cricket for one of the lesser fancied teams to win major trophy.( As Garlic said ahead of this final.) Some of the catching - from most teams - was a bit underwhelming (though the Kiwis were excellent in this final) but I enjoyed watching several of the matches

Last weekend marked the first game in the (Australian) A-League for the second NZ side to join the comp - Auckland FC had their debut in front of a raucous full house at home, and had a 2-0 (I think) win.

I think they have another home game this coming weekend, against one of the powerhouses of the comp, Sydney.
