when in form he is a more than proficient one day player who although he has limitations is able to score quickly, when he is out of form due to his lack of shot scoring options he is easily bogged down, which generally causes either him or his partner to play a rash shot and get out

almost anyone who is an established international player can be a proficient ODI player "when in form", fact remains we are going into a period leading up to the WC with cook not being in form but still seemingly guaranteed his place

dont worry look at the OP, he wouldnt be anywhere near the team if i was a selector

if he was an inspiring captain i could understand it but he just isn't

wasn't disagreeing with you

just one of my pet hates when I see someone being described as being a good player when they are in form , at this level I would hope they are all good players when in form

Between 8/1 and 10/1 depending on the bookie.

Quite fancy New Zealand to pull it off actually, a team on the rise and have a complete squad.

It cut out before the end, but this seemed to be Mark Butcher's WC squad on Switch Hit.

Hales
Lumb
Root
Bopara
Morgan
Moeen
Buttler
Woakes/Stokes
Broad
Tredwell
Finn

Bell
Taylor
Rankin.

Far too many batsmen and not enough bowlers in that squad for my liking.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Moeen and Ravi have to bowl ten, with Root chipping in.

There are two batters and two bowlers among the reserves though.

Lumb isn't too likely to go. But then Cook is certainly going.

I think Root and Moeen will be meat and drink to batsmen in Australia and it's the pace bowlers who will carry the greatest burden with temperatures in the high 30-40's. You only fill a team full of batsmen when you little belief in their ability.

Maybe Tredwell will miss out and Moeen, Bopara will do the pace off? Not all Aussie/NZ grounds are the same. There will have to be some versatility.

The lack of tons from England's top order (1,2,3) is a serious issue nowadays in ODI format. Even some middle order players of other teams have more tons. Neither do they have a prolific ODI middle order. The experiment to determine team combo for near future(WC) has not given any results.
Test FL's - 8 , ODI and Tests Combo FL's - 1, ODI World Cup - 1, ODI FL's - 7, ODI and T20i combo FL's - 1 ,
T20 Franchisee FL's - 7, T20i Cup FL's- 1, T20 FL's- 5 , 50 Overs Domestic FL's - 1, 40 Overs Domestic FL's- 1

Not entirely useless, but below par as compared to top teams imo. From available options, Trott and Morgan are Englands top ODI players imo. Trott has average of 50
+ with SR of 77. Morgan has very lesser average as compared to Trott, but he balances it well with higher SR. The other batters have failed to have a good Avg/SR combo.

IMO Trott won't play again, and i doubt he expects to... Morgan we know has the class, but he hasn't done the business for a hell of a long time now, and if he was left out i don't think many people would be too suprised..

It's frightening that England don't really have a settled side with the World Cup so close.

They'll probably spring more surprises when the squad for SL is announced on Wednesday.

Cricinfo says Cook will continue as captain, and Anderson will make way for Bopara in SL.
