Reckon we should do a sweepstake on how many runs cook will get and see which person get the closest.

Gone for 15000. He's only 31, has no pressure for his place (yet) and has always relied on grit, which may not desert him. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go past Tendulkar, with all the tests he plays. Not playing ODI's is another reason he could play longer than Sachin.

Not sure he would play longer than tendulkar.
Doubt Cook would play for 25 years.
Cook might play more test but not the same as playing the same amount of time.
if he goes the current scoring rate he would beat tendulkar at the age of 37.

For cook to play longer than Tendulkar Cook would have to retire at 2030.
No way is that happening.

not sure if he would play more test either.
72 Test is quite bit to still play.
might get close but he would probably fall short.
reckon he will play around 175-185.

Cook plays about 10-12 tests a year, so seven more years and he's there.

except that the ICC might insist that the ECB get rid of him before then.... after all, no-one should be allowed to be better than the little master.... or else!

TBH when a players reaches 30+ always hard to know when they will retire.
Not sure cook would last till 37 or 38.
reckon he will go aged 34-36.
my head is saying after the next ashes.

With someone with his technical issues he could actually have another dud period and not sure he can survive another poor period of scoring runs and with increasing age makes it more likely he would be on a decline.

if he fails in Australia and England loses the Ashes, Cook would surely be gone and not survive.
essentially his future career depends on that Ashes.

Will anyone remember to look in on this thread when he actually does retire?
