For me it is mind boggling that he isn't in the test side at the moment, and i felt ages ago that he he should have been in the side, but he has clearly upset the selectors in some way... do you guys think he will play another test match?

I should hope so.

I thought he would have been next in line, before Bairstow was picked. As he was when Ballance and Root were selected. He did ok in the ODI side at three, and then was dropped down to six. He got 96 at six against Australian in the WC, and then was dropped completely. It's said Flower doesn't rate him, but then why always in the Lions team?

He's not having a great season at Notts, he's had a few big scores but a lot of mediocre and poor games.
His willingness to go public on his disappointment at not being in the England squad might not help either. Clearly he's behind Bairstow and maybe Ballance in pecking order, he may have missed the boat unless he can get into, and impress, in the ODI team which seems the route into test cricket.

When Bell retires they'll probably try to or three out so Taylor could be one of those.

Borthwick might be in the selectors eye before Taylor, a part time leggie might be quite an attraction.

James Taylor is too talented a player not to be playing for England. He just needs to do what Jonny Bairstow did and that is score County Championship runs by the boatload.

No, he has not.

Since he moved up to the first division Taylor has averaged: 49 in 2013, 38 in 2014 and currently 47.

None of those are close to the form Bairstow has had this year.

Indeed, but Taylor hasnt played 25 test innings without a hundred, or as yet looked so inept to quick short pitched stuff, to even poor spin bowling, or has proved to play across the inswinger and get bowled..... Bairstow had a solid run in the team, and was consistently obliterated.

Has Bairstow ever played at one drop against the new ball for Yorkshire much? I am sure batting after Lyth, Root, Ballance, Lees and Williamson might do wonders for most batsmans average... after all, Bresnan averages 50 this year.

How much scoreboard pressure is Bresnan used to?

Not to say that Bairstow couldnt make it, but at the moment I think Bairstow has been technically found out in his first run, but he went back to Yorkshire playing keeper at first in the hope that he had found another niche that gave an excuse to fit him back into the team while hoping his batting has improved.

That was a stupid move. Its not about county runs for Jonny, he scored bags of runs, it should have been about working on his game. One short ball and gone in the last test... was like Kemar Roach 2012 all over again

Has he progressed as a technical cricketer since 2013?

He did from what I read get out to a great ball in his only innings. Best to see if he's improved after the Oval.

Williamson isn't playing for Yorkshire this year, Lyth, Root and Ballance have barely played, if at all. Also Talyor doesn't bat first drop anyway.

I am not going to say Bairstow is a better bat than Taylor, just responding to the comment that Taylor has produced similar figures to Bairstow.

Taylor has been fairly underwhelming since his move to Notts. I do feel for the lad, he been messed around and dropped without ever doing much wrong. I reckon he'll have to wait till Bell retires to get a fair shot at the Test side.

Im never convinced a ball that can be ducked or swayed to is a great ball. It was a good bouncer, but you expect a guy averaging a 108 to get out the way off it.

Either way, its further evidence if needed, that Bairstow struggles with short stuff.

He doesnt have the peaks that others have, but his record is consistently strong.
