I agree with Durhamfootman with the bowling for the Ireland Test but with the Ashes they want one fast man, Archer/Wood/Stone for the short stuff.

They say there is 5 Tests in short time but it is same as usual. In 2019 when the Ashes were here Broad (175 overs) played all 5 Tests, Archer (156) and Woakes (95) 4 Tests..

So Anderson injured 1st Test
Archer replaces him for the 2nd Test
3rd Test same
4th Woakes form replaced by Overton
5th Test Overton injured replaced by Curran, Woakes brought back as Stokes can't bowl. That could happen again. One of them could replace Stokes for bowling.

So I haven't a clue who will be bowling in the Ashes except Leach.

Starting line up will be Anderson, Broad, Robinson and Leach, I reckon. I can't see them risking Archer or Wood on Ireland

Sorry I don't know how I got that wrong. Potts has got 8 wickets.

73.1-10-320-7 .. 45.71 - Leach (3)
65.0-3-278-6 .. 46.33 - Ahmed (3)

Looks like it will be 4 games before the Ireland Test. Leach, probably 3 more.

In the IPL Curran (24.5), Wood (16),Archer (8), Stokes (1)

16 now for Potts, but he's still a long way away from his performances this time last year. His radar isn't quite there yet and he doesn't look quite as quick as he looked a year ago. Maybe that's deceiving and it's just a bit of intent that's lacking. He has little spells where everything seems to click and he looks a handful, but then it all seems to slip away again. Whatever the reason, he doesn't look to me like a man in contention for an ashes place at this moment in time

No match for him this week, so he has another week off at a time when he's trying to find his rythmn

Division 2. Needs to get himself to a division 1 county to get in the England set up.

He didn't need that last year

That used to be a thing though didn't it. Don't know if it still applies.

Perhaps, but that probably died the day a div 2 player became capt

It also helps that the captain has a big say in selection.

The first 5 years of first class cricket 476 overs compared to 2022. That's a big leap in workload in one so young.

2017 - 163 overs
2018 - 5 - 0vers
2019 - 68 overs
2020 - 36 overs
2021 - 204 overs

2022 - 647 overs

I don't think he'll play a part in the ashes, but it won't stop England insisting he gets rested regularly

Yes those are the overs that Potts bowled in his first class career.

I hope the bowlers left out can play cc if they are not picked.
Potts might get a go against Ireland.

I reckon he might get a look in. Depends how many injuries and rotations there are. 5 back to back tests is a lot.
