my boy Harmer has taken about a thousand wickets albeit on some friendly Chelmsford tracks, but he's also scored runs on them too

Neither of those made me short list.

I have two Englishmen, 2 Indians, 2 Sri Lankans, a South African and a Pakistani.

One of my Indians might get the edge in the T20 tomorrow to save me too much of a headache.

Not the sexiest name out there by any imagination but, for me, Dinesh Chandimal has faced two very tough Test series in July versus Australia and Pakistan. In both series’ Sri Lanka have held their own and Chandimal is one of the figures responsible for that.

In the final Test (and the only one to fall within the month of July) Chandimal scored 206* versus Australia and then went on to average 68.25 – only once not registering a half century – in four innings versus Pakistan. Decent figures against some very high quality opposition.

Sikandar Raza has to be the Cricketer of the Month this time out.

Firstly he has scored 3 centuries in August. His first two were versus Bangladesh to see Zimbabwe win their first series against a higher ranked side and his last was against India, who Zimbabwe got very close to beating in their final ODI.

In all he has scored 417 in 9 matches whilst also getting 7 wickets. Nor is this just one good month. He also has the 4th most integrational runs in 2022.

He is now up to fourth spot on the all-rounder rankings with only Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan above him.

Bit of a left field one from me this month but the figures of Kaumal Nanayakkara in the Sri Lankan Major League Tournament are frankly extraordinary.

In the month of September, the leftie has bagged 35 wickets across 4 games. He has got 5 or more wickets in 5 innings and topped out at match figures of 12-132 in the match against Nondescripts at the start of the month.

In full his figures read:

5-100
5-76 & 7-56
4-77 & 2-59
6-33 & 6-39

very impressive, but I'm tempted to nominate Liam Norwell for single handedly saving his whole county from relegation with a 9 wickets haul in defending a small total of 138 in a do or die situation. Only one match, I know, but the pressure was enormous and task was hugely difficult. Even the agents of shield would have struggled to match it.

Definitely in Bob Willis territory

Need a tie break vote....or someone else to provide a compelling case.

I was going to suggest Rizwan.

10 T20Is in September, 553 runs at an average of 69 and SR of 131, 7 half centuries and 2 player of the match awards. A pretty darn good month's work.

Joe Root... for going to play golf instead of turning up for his team in a relegation battle
