Probably not going to win, but a shout out to Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka for his efforts in the ODI world cup qualifying campaign.

June 2023 figures - P7 W7 26 wickets at 10, econ 4.75, SR 12, 2 player of the match awards. An average of 3.5 wickets per ODI. Not a bad effort, even if the opposition weren't all the strongest.

The eyes of the world have been on The Ashes, but the ensemble nature of the tournament has seen nobody (bar Crawley and Woakes) be consistently excellent. For me the most consistent Test performances of July have come from an Indian spinner in the West Indies. He bagged an outstanding twelve wicket hail in the first match and then got a fifty in the second.
Ashwin loves batting in the West Indies. His overall test average (23.65) almost doubles when batting in the Caribbean (46.77).

He’s my shout for player of the month.

Cricketer of the month was a toss up between two guys who dominated two short form competitions. Wanindu Hasaranga had a stellar LPL but is the top dog in Sri Lankan cricket and perhaps was expected to blow everyone out the water. Tymal Mills, on the other hand, almost single handedly dragged the Southern Brave to the final of The Hundred so I think he gets my nod.

what about Prithvi Shaw for Northants? double hundred against Somerset followed a couple of days later by 125 not out against Durham. If Durham had posted even a par total he'd have scored a double ton in that match too, because they were never going to get him out

My nod for this month’s player of the month goes to Dwaine Pretorius who delivered time and time again for Guyana in the CPl. He ended the tournament with 20 wickets at an average of 15.45. he topped it all off with a man of the match performance in the final with cracking figures of 4/26.

I said this on the CC thread

Durhamfootman wrote:I have to say that Liam Dawson seems to be having a stellar end to the season. 7 fer in the one day cup semi final and 57 runs in the final, 115 runs and 7 wickets v Somerset and now 5 wickets and a match winning 119 to end the Essex title charge. Must surely be a contender for CMS player of the month

and you can add to that the 9 wickets he took to roll over the county champions

Very much a battle of the batters this month and boiled down to De Kock or Sharma but think QDK edges it.

He has the most runs, the highest individual score, the second most boundaries of any one in the tournament, the 4th most sixes and the third most 100s.

Ravindra gets my vote, because he is the only candidate to play India (and made 80 odd)... also has wickets in the tournament....

wee Davey is an ex Durham player too, of course, but I try to forget that whenever possible

Didn't end it with the trophy but Mohammed Shami's impact on the World Cup was undeniable. Started off outside the XI but figures of 5-54, 4-22, 5-18 and, of course, that 7-57 saw him end with 4 of the Top 10 best bowling figures of the tournament.
