Today's Hot Topics

Postby The Professor » Thu Oct 07, 2021 7:19 am

Morning all

Thought it might be good to have a thread that collates some of the big stories and ideas that are going on in cricket to invite a bit of regular daily conversation on one thread.

I will post some questions or news stories every weekday for us to have a chat about across the day....when I remember...

So Let's kick off with:

Did Bangalore just cost themselves the IPL by not finishing second?

Did rain save Australia's women yesterday?

And

The final four of Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata are confirmed. Who is your money on?

Might be a slight exaggeration to say rain saved Australia , as we cannot be absolutely sure how it would have gone ; but I do think India were in a healthy position. And it is fair to say that they've largely been on top since the first ODI : arguably "robbed" in the second by a rather contentious third umpire call (though their own appalling fielding probably justified the loss!) ; winning the third , dominating the rain- spoiled Test and now this. With two t20s to go and leading 7-5 Australia are still in the box seat to win (a win each is a not unlikely result in any two t20 games ) but if it does end up 9-7 to them then India may justifiably feel a little unlucky.
At least - as long as weather permits - the final result remains in either team's own hands.

And as a footnote to the above , I think India might be hoping for some rain now as they have slumped to 53/5 in the next t20 and look all but down and out :)

Australia won, but the most memorable moment was that ball that removed Healy....no hyperbole to suggest it was wide enough to miss a second set of timber, but seams backed like a Murali offspinner and clips middle and off- bail.

A mixed day for DRS as it is announced it will be used in the World Cup but won't be used in the BBL

ooh.... going old school.

you never know, it might work very well and improve the flow of the matches. Spectators might be home in time to go to bed at a reasonable hour. There might eventually be an appetite for less use (or more judicial use) of the review system

Unlucky Delhi crash out of IPL

Chennai or Kolkata for the championship?

Travis Head scores a double century in The Marsh Cup

Chris Gayle and Curtly Ambrose in an unfortunately timed public spat.
