An ideal series would be 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is like what happened in New Zealand. Obviously for Ashes series there would still be 5 Tests.

Phew! I was a bit worried by your comment, No7 - Until I read the last sentence. I agree, but I reckon maybe 5 ODI's.

I want (if fully fit)

Anderson
Tremlett
Broad

Tremlett was in such fine form when he got injured, wasn't he. I watched a few overs from him and his length was impeccable That line and length reminded me of Andy Caddick's spell of 7 for 16 something.

However, i would like to see Jimmy,Broad , Finn and Swann as first choice bowlers if they play only 4 bowlers. If they move Prior at 6 then i would add Tremlett if he passes the fitness test. Onions is a very risky selection after the think tank didn't consider him good enough to play as replacement to injuries on India tour and more so after he gave 200 in some tour warmup in NZL series.

For the Ashes: 7, 5, 3/5.

It would take a long time.

However, I would like to see standalone Test series. Make ODI/T20 into mini competitions, tri/quad series.

I'm quite sad that there is back-to -back Ashes at all. IMHO it will serve to devalue a great tradition by overkill.

4 Tests, 5 ODIs, 5 T20Is (to give it some meaning). Play the T20s on 5 consecutive days and have only 1 or 2 day break in between ODIs rather than 3 day gaps. This is of course, for series between top nations. Against sides like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, I'd play 1 Test, 3 ODIs and 3 T20s. Thats it. Against SL/WI, 3 Tests, 5 ODIs, 5 T20Is. For the rest of the sides, as said earlier (4 Tests, 5 ODIs, 5 T20Is ).

I think even the staunchest Test cricket devotee would struggle to retain interest over a 7 match series. 4 sounds just fine. Maybe 5 in some cases.

Maybe the old trination competitions would work for T20? Certainly a good way to play a game a day and get it over with quickly.

Don't like the back to back Ashes. But I'll watch it all.

Back to Back Ashes is still okay as there is a 2 month gap between the two series and will be held in two different countries in two different continents. One single 7 Test series in the same country sounds scary though.

I think that if the sides were relatively well-balanced it would be an intriguing spectacle with far more long term tactics coming into play.

I like the idea of tri-nation T20s or even fourways with two games a day. I don't understand why they don't play two a day anyway. Far more interesting.

Any guesses then?

Rogers/Warner/Cowan/Hughes/Clarke/Watson/Smith
Wade/Haddin
Lyon/O'Keefe
Siddle/Pattinson/Starc/Bird/Johnson

With Khawaja, Maxwell, Henriques, Faulkner, Agar among the A team, with
Harris, Hilfenhaus, Coulter-Nile among the seamers, and one of these pace bowlers to join the full squad.

cant see o'keefe getting into the squad

if they didn't take him to india then cant see them picking him for this tour but with the way the aus selectors have been thinking recently nothing would surprise me
