Do you still get the odd ringer dropping down to play club cricket on their days off nowadays, or county academy or B squad players floating around? Back in my playing days we regularly had Sussex lads turning up to play the odd game, and Lewis Hatchett used to play for us when he could. I guess this doesn't happen nowadays, although I did read that Marnus Labuschagne is apparently a club cricket fanatic and still turns up for his club in Sydney at every opportunity (and gets mocked for treating it like test cricket).

how good is that, btw, if still true? Imagine the thrill of turning out for a game and finding yourself bowling to a top test player

Yeah loads kieron Powell has signed for a club near me...Mervyn westfield turned out for Epping last year and we have county 2s players all the time turning out... bizarre but a good challenge at the same time
