Kemar Roach, West Indies' veteran fast bowler, has been withdrawn from their 15-man squad for the upcoming Test tour of England, after sustaining a knee injury while playing for Surrey in the County Championship.

England are set to hand the wicketkeeping gloves to debutant Jamie Smith for the first two Tests against West Indies. Both the previous incumbents behind the stumps, Ben Foakes and Jonny Bairstow, were omitted from the 14-man squad, and there was also no place for Jack Leach, Mark Wood or Ollie Robinson as England seek to reboot their Test line-up.

Because there's better players around....a few years ago he was on the edge and was probably unlucky to miss out then..but his time has gone

I think that is pretty insulting to the lad, if you ask me. I challenge anyone to watch him on form and tell me he doesn't look technically a cut above pretty much everyone around. You can count on one hand how many players maintained a plus 40 average playing regularly in the last decade of CC cricket where batting averages have plummeted to generational lows. In that time, SNE scored the 9th best innings ever registered, scored the highest innings at Lords, and beat two individual county all time scoring records.

He's been on form for the last 3 odd years, has shown a penchant for making mammoth totals, has always been considered the architype professional...

There are three players in my lifetime I cannot fathom retiring without a test cap.... Ali Brown, James Hildreth and him.

We capped about 20 players with inferior records in the last 10 or so years, some vastly inferior on paper and on the eye test. We currently have 3/4 players in the England team who have worse records in CC...How did he get through the 2010s without a cap is beyond me.

For the batters, Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope couldn't be less out of form, so that feels a week top order. Stokes could do with some runs too, but he might find batting at Lords Easier to CLS recently.

The real concern in the bowling. Woakes + Stokes have had serious injury concerns in recent times, Atkinson has never been fit and hardly bowls many long spells in innings and Anderson is 42 and retiring.... if Windies stay in a while, I do worry we have picked a load of half cooked bowlers.

Agree. I'd say the WIndies bowling looks more troubling. They will probably win the toss and bowl. If England win the toss they will want to bat and put on a big score. :scared

Looks like Stokes and Brook have swapped paces in the order. Good luck to the debutants. And Shoaib in his first home Test. This is the WI lineup. Quite a few names new to me.

Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Mikyle Louis, Kirk McKenzie, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Jason Holder, Joshua da Silva (wk), Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales.

Better not take West Indies lightly ! Australia got a bit of a surprise a few months ago... But I suspect the tourist's batting may prove their Achilles heel , even if the Joseph-inspired bowling group presents a threat.

I note Sussex's concern re the form of some of the England top order so am glad to see they bat fairly deep this time with Woakes at eight. I am a little anxious about the bowling in fact , with an unproven Atkinson - looking like a bit of a "hopeful" selection ; and a still very inexperienced Bashir who won't have an Indian spin-friendly surface to work with , making up 40% of the attack ... better hope Stokes is up for his 20% !

Looking forward to the game anyway. And hope Jimmy gets to sign off in good style...
