Predictable massacre. 3 debutants, 3 more with 2-4 tests, one with 8. This must be one of the most inexperienced sides ever to tour Australia, and it's hard enough to win with experienced players at their peak.

West Indies 120 all out

McKenzie 26

Hazelwood 5-35

Australia 26-0

I still don't understand why the selectors went with Hodge and Greaves, when Blackwood and Bonner were available, but ignored.

Unusual situation today with the day/night arrangement for this match meaning the two Tests in Brisbane and Hyderabad are due to start at exactly the same time... might finish similarly early too if tales of pitch in the latter are accurate and pink ball does its usual tricks here !

Given the West Indies inexperienced squad which ended up comprehensively smashed in Adelaide isn't given a hope here , it is probably fair to say interest and anticipation is not at a high level. Would certainly be a major surprise if the tourists were able to turn things around , especially looking at Australia's impeccable record in day/night matches. However I will still be interested to see if new find Joseph can follow up his remarkable debut match , and whether the glimpses of talent we saw from one or two other newcomers - McKenzie , Greaves - can translate into more hopeful signs for the future.

Australia unchanged despite Green testing positive for Covid (he will apparently have to sit in another room when off the field) ; Head now negative and Khawaja recovered from the knock on the head. Smith confident ahead of his second try at opening the batting.

Might be some rain around. Weather in Queensland has been distinctly tricky lately so hopefully will not disrupt the game too much.

sussexpob wrote:Obviously Will Pucovski would walk into the team, but I think its safe to say after a 2 year spell where he walked away from the game, he must have retired for good

turns out he is batting for Victoria 2nd XI at the minute, which sadly I found out because he was once again hit on the head and had to retire hurt. Thankfully, no 12th concussion, but judging on the video, its another short ball he just wears on the head. We all know what happened to the last batsman Australia produced that looked like Bradman hitting full balls to the boundary fence, but with a very acute weakness to short pitched bowling.... with Aussie pitches and bowlers, its surprising that guys can get big averages in the FC game being so weak to short pitched stuff, but there comes a time where you hope Pucovski decides to call it a day for his own health reasons. There is a horrible cycle to all of this, and one that you get the feeling can end badly..... get hit on the head, get concussion, has mental health issues and dissolves away from the game, comes back.... recycle.

I dont know if its a mental thing, video evidence suggests he just freezes occasionally to short pitch bowling and doesn't move out the way.... hence why he keeps wearing them.

Either way, good to see a strong partnership from the Windies has developed, and 120 runs later if they can keep this together for another 50 odd runs, we might have something resembling a match now.

Joshua Da Silva looked good when England last toured WIndies, but today (and that 100 he got v England) seem to be exceptions to the rule. Average is shoddy in general...

Apparently Carey had his offstump clanged without the bail coming off early into his innings, so the game could have been pretty much dead had it not been for a massive slice of luck

I don't blame you in the slightest.

Good to see - except it is Aus that is looking down the barrel.

Aussies declare in arrears. The sort of move that makes the skipper look like a deep strategic thinker.
