Commentators have been telling us that SA's weakness was their batting. Cummins won the toss and decided to test this out.

The Aus bowlers didn't quite have it together at the very start, but after a few overs they tightened up. All of a sudden, SA we 4/27 but a (currently) 60 run partnership between Bavuma and Verreynne has given the score some amount of hope.

Bit of a bowlers' day in Brisbane before Head took charge. Makes a change for the Aussie top order to fizzle out.

Never seen such a green wicket in Brisbane. It was enough for Australia to choose to bowl first on winning the toss, something they haven't done since 2000. And it was the right call - 23 wickets down now just after lunch day 3, and South Africa in a world of problems.

What a terrible looking game. Seems even worse with Aussies getting home thanks to 15 wides and four byes.

Makes Travis Head's first innings look pretty good.

The Aussie commentators have been absolutely laying into the pitch. Deservedly so, but you can tell it's bad when even the likes of Slater and Hayden can't defend the home turf.

Pitch was way too green...same colour as the outfield....I wonder if this had happened in Asia then there would have been more outcry about it....

I think the outcry has been pretty decent - with a heck of a lot of it being along similar lines as your comment, Andy.

The pitch got a below average rating and one demerit point, in the end. I think they were damn lucky to avoid a poor rating, but it didn't look as if it was actively dangerous, just an uneven contest between bat and ball.

which I think was a fair outcome.

The pitch wasn't as bad as the hue and cry about it, imo. It was coupled with very good bowling and some very poor batting, which made it look worse than it actually was.
