England can be pleased with that first day. Getting Pakistan for what looks like a fairly modest total - and all in one day. Pity to lose an opener but can't have everything.

Bit of turn there and Abrar might keep them honest today though. Need to get a couple of partnerships going as you'd think this one might get tough to bat on , so a lead seems important. Interesting day coming , I think.

Very promising debut for young Rehan Ahmed. Understandably struggled early against two experienced bats on a day one pitch ; but came back really well later. Notable that his two wickets both came from deceiving the batsman rather than any loose shot on their behalf...just the sort of tool England would like to have in the kit for the next trip to India, for example. Shouldn't load him with too much expectation as I'm sure there will be ups and downs : but that's the sort of start I for one was hoping to see

now has a century in each of these 3 tests. Things were a bit sticky today for England, as they were in the last test, and he's steering things back England's way again. Only 50 odd behind now with 5 wickets in hand

Handy lead. My usual formula now is two wickets at scores level is a 50-50 game.

Should have had an over or two out of wood straight away with fading light they could have got away with one or two overs with it...get it flying through while ball is hard
