Given the extreme heat this summer, it's possible that it won't be easy to chase. So a lead of 180 and you never know...

Or they could lose by an innings in three days. Can't blame the bowlers for this...

ah....... that went well

who could possibly predicted that no red ball cricket for the England boys for 5 or 6 weeks before the first test could have such an impact on their form...... not me, that's for sure. :facepalm

course you can

they only took half as many wickets as their SA counterparts.... no team in the world could win a match with bowlers underperforming that badly :coat

I haven't watched any of this match at all

I had a feeling it was going to be bad, but hoped they might find another miracle from somewhere. Seems they've tried to draw from that well once too often

Stokes had better win the toss next time

That's commie talk, mister. Got to prioritise the hundred.

Seriously, though, that was a pathetic performance. SA bowled well, but didn't face much resistance.

Catching up the highlights, it seems England's footwork went absolutely awol. A mix of batters either setting their feet forward and waving the bat out, or stuck on the back foot not going anywhere. I concede it appeared SA got their lengths absolutely on point, and with swing and bounce (see how much Rabada's first wicket of the match took off to Lees as an example) its difficult to play the length...

Bit annoying too that England's tail seemed to wave the white flag in the second innings and just swung themselves out. I guess thats Bazball, and we have to take it for better or for worse (as its worked earlier in the summer). Still, seeing Broad wildly whack everything, Stokes taking on the deep fielder and getting out (should have been out twice, especially to Nortje on a return catch), Potts wildly mowing, Anderson attempting a walking slog and getting bowled.... I'd have liked a bit of backbone and digging in to make SA work, but I guess thats the standard now.
