yes, I saw something along those lines too. Seemingly the higher the ball is released the lower the strike rate of the batsman, which presumably builds pressure and leads to mistakes. For all his pace, Woody has one of the lowest points of release, so he might go for a few. I think I also read that the Aussie batsmen were generally very comfortable against short pitched bowling and so the ball really needed to be pitched that bit fuller for maximum effect (and to negate Smith it needed to be on a 4th or 5th stump line), but I have absolutely no doubt that England will tell Woody to bang it in short over and over again

Felt a little buzz of nostalgia there watching England getting off to a poor start at the Gabba. And a rainstorm too.

How many times have we seen this - Warner looking all at sea against early bowling, but survives. You've gotta take those chances, or he scores big...

Out off a no ball :facepalm

You just can't do that.

Although the commentary says that each of Stokes' first four balls was an overstep, but he was only called for it once he took the wicket. No excuse for bowling no balls, but what the hell are the umpires doing?

I guess in sport you make your own luck to a large degree, but sometimes it really does seem as though everything that can go wrong for England does go wrong when they tour Australia.

No balls aside, England are bowling reasonably well and could have had one or two more by now with a little more luck, but nothing is quite carrying.

Dropped catches, missed run outs, Warner is having a lot of luck. But he's making the most of it.

Cricinfo stats saying Australia induced 56 false shots yesterday and took 10 wickets. England have induced 40+ false shots and taken 1.

Leach gets a wicket after getting some tap, which will be good - don't want him targeted out of the game. Then Wood gets Smith cheaply - he's bowled well today, deserved a wicket.

Warner still there, will be going to buy a lottery ticket tonight I reckon.

England have a slight sniff of not conceding too big a lead, but it's not a great chance.

Robinson 2 in 2. Guess that did work!

Wood's actually been pretty on the money.

140 run lead and Leach is getting absolutely flogged.... 11 overs for 95 runs :o

140 is already enough for an innings victory against this side and England still have 4 wickets to take

Somehow Australia always seem to be able to take it to the visiting spinners. But when we try to go after Lyon, he gets wickets.

Seems like that the Aussies will win this tomorrow night at the latest. No Strauss, Cook and Trott to bat two days.

Probably not an awful bowling day (for the three main seamers anyway), just that yesterday was so terrible.
